‘We Are Your Friends’ trailer: Zac Efron takes DJ’ing for a spin.

Warner Bros. dropped the first trailer for the music drama, “We Are Your Friends,” which pairs two of the hottest — literally and figuratively — stars in Hollywood.

Efron plays a young, unemployed dude just trying to make it Southern California with his three best bros, as they party, pick up women and chase their dreams of becoming Mark Zuckerberg (never gonna happen) or Calvin Harris (definitely never gonna happen).Alternate headlines for this post include: Don’t Make Movies About DJs, Just Don’t; See Dozens Of White Boys Jump Into A Pool; and What Steve Aoki Hath Wrought. The movie, written and directed by Catfish‘s Max Joseph, follows an earnest DJ/party promoter named Cole Carter, played by a tank top-wearing Zac Efron. Inspired by Diplo’s Instagram account and written by a fifth-year named Tad with a closet full of neon tanks, here is a trailer for a movie called We Are Your Friends, about a post-grad’s quest to become a DJ. You know he’s a serious DJ because he theorizes about DJing and he won’t play “Drunk in Love.” (That may make him a technically good DJ, but it doesn’t make him very fun.) Apparently, Cole still needs to find himself, because, in the trailer, he gets some coaching from Wes Bentley’s character and jogs in slow-motion while staring at trees with his headphones off.

Ratajkowski, of course, turned heads with her turn in Robin Thicke’s “Blurred Lines” video and parlayed that into a co-starring role in last year’s “Gone Girl.” But complications arise when Cole gets close to his new mentor’s girlfriend (Emily Ratajkowski, of “Gone Girl” and the infamous “Blurred Lines” video) and begins to drift away from his loyal friends at the same time. Set to a pulsing soundtrack — including the Justice hit from which the movie takes its name — the “WAYF” trailer seems to give a good sense of the tone and aesthetic Joseph (MTV’s “Catfish”) is going for in his feature-directing debut. Either way, many fans of the former teen idol will be relieved to know that yes, he takes his shirt off in the movie. “He’s shirtless and you get a good dose of it,” Joseph told E recently. “It’s not a flash but it’s not like he’s playing water polo for like six minutes or anything like that.”
