After months of delays, Young Thug released his Slime Season mixtape on Wednesday night (Sept. 16), proving it’s always better late than never to give the people what they want. The latest mixtape from Young Thug does not disappoint, featuring a surprise appearance from Lil Wayne along with verses from PeeWee Longway, Quavo, Offset and others.C.H.U.D., for the uninitiated, was a B-movie horror released in 1984 about radioactive mutants living in New York’s sewer system and eating homeless people. The 18-track selection also includes “Best Friend,” which we’ve already seen the loopy visuals for, including Thugga himself in white face (see below). Originally billed as a full-length collaboration with Atlanta hitmaker London On Da Track, Slime Season also boasts beats from producers including Metro Boomin and Southside.

One time when I was a small child living in Valley Stream, my dad took me to a local video store and upon seeing this VHS on the shelves, knowingly said something to the effect of, “Oh, this movie’s a total piece of shit. After publicly beefing over project titles (Barter 6), Birdman playing Thug close and parting ways with Wayne and the Cash Money head honcho being named in a plot to kill Tha Carter V creator, Thug opening the mixtape with “Take Kare” is a daring move. From his C.R.E.A.M. track “Power” (“First you get that money then you get that power”) to the ode to his boo “Calling Your Name” (“You know we can get away”) and the spacey “Overdosin” (“I’m overdosin’, I’m cookin’ some fish, she put on some lotion”), there’s something for everyone.

With numerous songs and projects already under his belt, Slime Season just adds to the hype of his forthcoming trek. “All the songs are perfection,” Young Thug told fans while speaking on his upcoming debut LP at Lollapalooza 2015. Then, he reached out to his fans this week asking them to submit artwork for the cover of the tape, the surest sign that Slime was releasing much sooner than later.

The Original Motion Picture Soundtrack on 180 gram vinyl in two color schemes — Toxic Waste Puddle (shown above) and Flesh with Blood Splatter (shown here). Slime Season opens with the Wayne-featured “Take Kare,” which originally dropped last year, back when things were a lot rosier between the two rappers. The soundtrack has been restored, remixed and mastered from the original master tapes in collaboration with its composers Martin Cooper and David Hughes, and is now available for pre-order. With Thug ready to kick off his Hi-Tunes tour this Friday and his debut album Hy!£UN35 rumored to be surfacing next week, it makes perfect sense that Slime Season would serve as a lead-up to the two monumental events in his career.

Whether they’re all brand new tracks or not, that’s probably not a major concern that will slow folks from streaming and downloading Slime Season below. Needless to say, this is a greatly-anticipated release from one of the most exciting MCs today, but don’t just take our word for it — head to LiveMixtapes to stream the tape in full.
