D’Angelo Will Perform On ‘Saturday Night Live’ This Month.

The character actor, known for his roles in films like Jason Reitman’s Juno and Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man series, and on the television series Oz, has received critical acclaim for his recent portrayal of a disturbing, aggressive jazz instructor in the movie Whiplash, earning him awards galore including a nod from the Academy. If you were watching Oz years ago and you thought, “Shit, the guy playing that unrepentant racist Vern Schillinger should be on Saturday Night Live….” your day has come! It was recently announced that the “Brown Sugar” crooner would be headlining a show at the famous Apollo Theater on Feb. 7th but he isn’t stopping there. Simmons is, of course, known as a character actor and someone who is used to playing super serious characters on both sides of the good/bad divide, but he’s done some comedy as well with his voice work on BoJack Horseman, Juno, his great 2-episode run on Party Down, and his over-the-top J.
