Jennifer Lawrence and Hunger Games director Francis Lawrence may reunite for Red Sparrow.

The official plot synopsis for the concluding chapter in The Hunger Games film series teases: “With the nation of Panem in a full scale war, Katniss (Jennifer Lawrence) confronts President Snow (Donald Sutherland) in the final showdown. “Teamed with a group of her closest friends – including Gale (Liam Hemsworth), Finnick (Sam Claflin), and Peeta (Josh Hutcherson) – Katniss goes off on a mission with the unit from District 13 as they risk their lives to stage an assassination attempt on President Snow who has become increasingly obsessed with destroying her.Jennifer Lawrence is circling an adaptation of the spy novel Red Sparrow, about a Russian agent trained in the art of seduction who becomes a mole for the CIA, reports Deadline. The countdown clock is on and the days until we’re able to see “The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 2,” the final film in the “Hunger Games” franchise, is slipping closer and closer to zero.

Jason Matthews’ Edgar award-winning book centres on a state intelligence officer named Dominika Egorova, who is taught against her will to use sex as a weapon in her role as a post-Soviet intelligence “sparrow”. The film will be the final installment to the long-running Hunger Games franchise, starring Jennifer Lawrence, Josh Hutcherson, Liam Hemsworth, Woody Harrelson and Elizabeth Banks. The blurb for the New York Times bestselling novel reads: Dominika is assigned to operate against Nathaniel Nash, a first-tour CIA officer who handles the CIA’s most sensitive penetration of Russian intelligence.

Liam Hemsworth, at Toronto International Film Festival promoting “The Dressmaker,” his new film he co-stars in with Kate Winslet, has laid eyes on it. Joining them on-screen will be Julianne Moore, Philip Seymour Hoffman, Jeffrey Wright, Willow Shields, Sam Claflin, Jena Malone, Natalie Dormer, with Stanley Tucci, and Donald Sutherland.

The two young intelligence officers, trained in their respective spy schools, collide in a charged atmosphere of tradecraft, deception, and, inevitably, a forbidden spiral of carnal attraction that threatens their careers and the security of America’s most valuable mole in Moscow. Published in 2013 and drawing heavily from Matthew’s experience as a former CIA officer, Red Sparrow follows Dominika, a highly trained agent assigned to an American intelligence officer as he attempts to expose Russian state secrets in what becomes an international life-and-death operation that unfolds across Moscow and Washington. Deadline reports that Francis Lawrence, who has worked with Jennifer Lawrence in Hunger Games instalments Catching Fire, Mockingjay Part One and the upcoming Mockingjay Part Two, is in line to direct, a role for which David Fincher was once rumoured. Though the making of Red Sparrow is likely months away, Mockingjay – Part 2 promises to burn bright by making the most of Lawrence’s firebrand personality. “There is some serious girl power in this movie,” Lawrence told EW earlier of the franchise’s final installment earlier this year, adding, “I think it’s the most satisfying of the bunch.” It’s worth noting that Lawrence likes to reteam with familiar directors. Russell, who helmed Lawrence in “American Hustle” and her Academy Award-winning turn in “Silver Linings Playbook.” She also co-stars with Chris Pratt in “Passengers,” coming in 2016.

She is also lined up to headline Passengers, a $150m space romance about two travellers who wake early from hibernation on an interplanetary journey, opposite Jurassic World’s Chris Pratt. And this isn’t the first time there’s been news of a reunion between her and Francis Lawrence: in January, it was announced that the two would reteam for the James Cameron-produced movie The Dive. It’s like that in all of them but I feel like this is, the stakes are a little higher.” Hemsworth couldn’t elaborate more without giving too much away, but he did tell us whether he got a sudden attack of the feels while watching the cut. “No, it wasn’t emotional,” he said. “It’s definitely the end of a journey, but to have made friends like Jen [Lawrence] and Josh [Hutcherson], I couldn’t have asked for more.
