Here’s the Trailer for Michael Showalter’s New Movie ‘Hello, My Name Is Doris’.

Last year it was reported that New Girl’s Max Greenfield had signed on to star in Michael Showalter’s next film Hello, My Name Is Doris, and today the first trailer was released.

For an iconic actress with two Oscars, we don’t get to see much of Sally Field these days; aside from those forgettable Amazing Spider-Man movies, her only film appearance since 2006 was her (Oscar-nominated) supporting role in Lincoln. Co-starring Sally Field as a woman who falls in love with a younger man (Greenfield), the film includes appearances from Natasha Lyonne, Kumail Nanjiani, Wendi McLendon-Covey, Kyle Mooney, Beth Behrs, Rich Sommer, and Jack Antonoff. In the film, Field plays an isolated woman learning about the world of hipsters via an attraction to Max Greenfield: From the trailer, the film resembles The Baxter in some respects. That film was about a tied-down, mild manner person, the suitable type left at the altar in romantic comedies, learning to be the romantic lead of his own story.

While Showalter’s The State cohort David Wain has gone on to direct films like Role Models and They Came Together, Showalter has mainly directed television. Her first encounter with true romance (outside of the pages of a novel) convinces Doris that she and the mostly unaware John are meant for each other. After her mother passes away, she starts dating and stepping outside of her comfort zone, which creates that comedic tension between people of a certain age and the Millennial tech-obsessed generation. In the cluttered house she shared with her late mother, Doris mines the Internet for information on her one-and-only, guided by the 13-year-old granddaughter of her best pal Roz (Tyne Daly). When Doris begins showing up at John’s regular haunts, she wins over his Williamsburg friends with her eclectic vintage wardrobe, quirky naiveté and unironic enthusiasm for their rooftop knitting circle.

Her new life brings Doris a thrilling perspective, but also creates a rift between her and her longtime friends and family, who believe she’s making a fool of herself over a guy half her age. If you’ve ever come across the Instagram account for Baddie Winkle, then you’ll understand the vibe Field’s character is channeling in this film. The fact that she could create that kind of wardrobe that’s so unique with no money — it was a lot of days of trying on every piece of old clothing she could gather together finding a way to create the character out of the clothing and I think that’s what we did. We were all scavenging for food, all the snack bars are closed, saying, “Does anybody got any M&Ms left?” Anybody who was coming home from work had to walk over this group—what looked like dead people laying on the floor, fighting over the last M&M, begging that the popcorn stand would open up.
