Amy Schumer, Jennifer Aniston Team Up With Shooting Survivors To Help End Gun Violence.

Amy Schumer, Jennifer Aniston, Sofia Vergara, and Julianne Moore are just a few of the celebrities who joined President Obama in speaking out against gun violence this week. That’s the message celebrities, including Amy Schumer, Julianne Moore and Jennifer Aniston, President Barack Obama, gun violence survivors and mothers want you to hear.America in 2015 has seen 294 mass shootings in 274 days, a level of violence The New York Times called a “gun epidemic” in its first front-page editorial in nearly 100 years.Amy Schumer, Sofia Vergara, Jennifer Aniston and a host of other celebrities joined forces with gun violence prevention group Everytown for Gun Safety to plead for legislative action in the wake of last week’s mass shooting in San Bernardino, California.

The video places celebrities among men, women, children, family members of shooting victims and shooting survivors — all repeating the same slogan in a montage: The actress and comedian teamed up with cousin and New York Senator Charles Schumer earlier this year with the #AIMINGFORCHANGE campaign — another social media initiative dedicated to spreading awareness for gun law reform. The celebrities, along with mothers of gun violence victims and survivors of gun violence, are featured in a video released Wednesday encouraging people to speak out and call on lawmakers to address gun violence. The organization describes itself as “a movement of Americans working together to end gun violence and build safer communities.” In the video, the spoken message is simple, but powerful. The initiative was prompted by an earlier shooting at a movie theater in Lafayette, Louisiana, while Amy Schumer’s movie “Trainwreck” was playing.

In 2012, after the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting that killed 20 children and six adults in Newtown, Connecticut, the group released a video of Beyonce, Will Ferrell, John Legend and others asking Americans to “demand a plan” for gun control. We’re defeating the gun lobby in statehouses across the country and making it clear that we won’t sit idly by while 88 Americans are killed by gun violence every day and hundreds more are injured,’ he said. Just last week, the Senate voted down two gun control bills, one that would have prevented anyone on the terrorist watch list from purchasing a gun and another that would have required background checks for all online purchases of firearms.

The president firmly dismissed a change in strategy in the war against the extremists that would require combat troops on the ground in Iraq and Syria. And while the terrorist group is made up of ‘thugs and killers’ and is part of a ‘cult of death’, he again refused to call them ‘radical Islamic terrorists’. ‘Muslim Americans are our friends and our neighbors are coworkers, our sports heroes. Mad Max will roar back out of the apocalypse while Mad Men rides off into the sunset, rock’s Antichrist Superstar and hip-hop’s Yeezus will rise again. And yes, they are our men and women in uniform who are willing to die in defense of our country,’ the president said, speaking from the Oval Office. ‘We have to remember that.’
