First trailer released for The Legend of Tarzan starring True Blood’s Alexander Skarsgard.

Following Disney’s lead of converting beloved classics into dark, live action adaptions, Warner Bros are releasing a new Tarzan film -The Legend of Tarzan – and the first trailer has just been released.Fans have been given their first full look at next summer’s retelling of the classic wild man tale, and the upcoming epic looks set to deliver on all fronts.

Hollywood has told the story of Edgar Rice Burroughs’s jungle hero several times, but this new version will depart somewhat from the familiar tale as it takes place after Tarzan has been raised by apes. Unlike the previous 200 hundred films based on the man-ape (yes, there have been over 200 Tarzan films since his first appearance in the Edgar Rice Burroughs novel in 1912) this latest take on the hero follows the titular character as he returns to the jungle, having already married Jane and been made Lord Greystoke. Leading man Alexander Skarsgard’s impressive physique takes centre stage in the teaser clip, while his on-screen chemistry with Margot Robbie is also revealed in the clip.

Starting with breath-taking landscape views of the jungle, which reveals the scale of production on the flick, an ominous voice over can be heard as the early story of Tarzan is shown on the screen. The plot follows the title character who, after acclimating to life in London, is called back to his former home in the jungle to investigate the activities at a mining encampment. Director David Yates has seemingly taken the pale grunts from the latest Mad Max film, made Christopher Waltz the villain (as always), and added a whole load of Dark Knight vibes to create an epic, well-trodden adventure. It preys on the old, the sick, the wounded… it preys on the weak, but never the strong.’ Australian beauty Margot, who sports red locks for her role as Jane, can then be seen telling a mystery man: ‘He is no normal man. The film bows on July 1, 2016 and joins Warner Bros.’ slate that includes “Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice,” “Suicide Squad” and the “Harry Potter” spinoff “Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them,” which also has Yates serving as director.

Margot Robbie stars in the film as love interest Jane Porter, Samuel Jackson as the nonfictional civil war veteran George Washington Williams, and Blood Diamond’s Djimon Hounsou as a war chief. No man ever started with less.’ The two minute trailer also involves an ample about of vine swinging, impressive CGI effects and a lot of gorillas as fans patiently await the chance to see the blockbuster when it hits screens in 2016. The most popular Tarzan film in recent memory was the beloved Disney adaption released in 1999, which was – at the time – the most expensive animated film ever created. Tarzan, now living as John Clayton III aka Lord Greystoke, is invited back to the Congo to serve as a trade emissary of Parliament, unaware that he is a pawn in a deadly convergence of greed and revenge, masterminded by the Belgian, Captain Leon Rom.
