Hungry for more! The Walking Dead is renewed for a seventh season by AMC after latest shocking episode pulls in 18million viewers.

That, in effect, propelled “Talking Dead” to 7.3 million viewers — its best-ever numbers for an episode not airing that night of a “Walking Dead” season finale. AMC announced on Friday that the hit zombie show will return at least once more when its current season concludes, as will its companion chat show, Talking Dead.

While Kermit, Miss Piggy, Fozzie Bear et al. haven’t exactly set the world on fire vis a vis viewership, the show has performed well enough to satisfy network suits (at least for now). When, on the third shake, ‘without a doubt’ filled the murky blue screen, we knew we had to proceed with new seasons of ‘The Walking Dead’ and ‘Talking Dead.’ “All joking aside, we are so proud to share these shows with fans who have been so passionate, communicative and engaged,” the exec added. “We are grateful for and continually impressed by the talent, effort and excellence on continuous display by Robert Kirkman, Scott Gimple, Chris Hardwick and the many people with whom we partner to make these unique shows possible. Meanwhile fans of the show are nervously awaiting the next episode in the current season, to see if Glenn Rhee really was eaten alive, or if he’s just stuck under the eviscerated corpse of his suicidal Alexandrian frenemy. Hooray.” Meanwhile the series’ spin-off, Fear The Walking Dead, is set for a second 15-episode series next year after a record-breaking first season on the cable network. Next up for AMC is another comic book adaptation based on Gareth Ennis and Steve Dillon’s superb series, Preacher, which will be developed for TV by Seth Rogen, Evan Goldberg and “Breaking Bad” alum Sam Catlin

AMC will certainly compile more numbers in the coming days as they come in. (UPDATE: The show drew 19.5 million viewers including three days of DVR usage compared to 22.4 million for the season 5 debut.
