Jimmy Fallon reunites Kenan and Kel on ‘The Tonight Show’.

Proving again that he’s master of orchestrating the reunions you didn’t know you wanted, as with “Full House” and “Saved By The Bell,” Jimmy Fallon reunited Kel Mitchell and Kenan Thompson for a “Good Burger” sketch on Wednesday night’s show. For those not trapped in an ever-rotating carousel of 90s nostalgia, who may not understand the significance of the reunion, Mitchell and Thompson were originating cast members of Nickelodeon’s kids sketch comedy show “All That,” a show that would eventually launch the career of Amanda Bynes. Back in 2012, Mitchell, 37, claimed that Thompson never wanted to work with him again. “The truth is Kenan does not want to be seen with me in any form of media, or even have my name mentioned around him.

The pair, known as Kenan & Kel, were breakout stars who landed their own eponymously-titled sitcom on Nickelodeon, as well as the feature film “Good Burger,” based on the sketch. Kenan and I are still talking about it,” Mitchell said in an interview on Thursday, “It was awesome to be back in that zone again and be on set together. It felt like old times.” Mitchell also had nothing but high praise for “The Tonight Show” crew, saying, “Jimmy and his crew did an awesome job of how they made it look. This past February, Mitchell revealed that he once tried out for SNL, but never made it past the audition room. “I did like, I think it’s hilarious now thinking about it, but now doing stand-up and being good at it now, I realize now what I did was not good,” Mitchell recalled in a Reddit AMA. “But basically I did this joke about DMX – if DMX was in Toy Story. I mean, it looked like the real set!” More than anything, however, what matters is how fans responded to seeing their childhood recaptured, if only for a moment. “To see how people responded was awesome — the cheers had me pumped.
