Actress Valerie Harper hospitalized before Ogunquit Playhouse performance.

Emmy winner Valerie Harper, who had been playing the role of Millicent in The Ogunquit Playhouse’s production of Nice Work If You Can Get It before falling ill July 29, is resting with her family, according to a spokesperson for the theatre.

The health of actress Valerie Harper is in dispute after Entertainment Tonight reported that she was in a coma, while other reports stated she was resting or possibly released from the hospital. “Brave, open and wants to share her love with everyone, meeting everyone after the show”, Ogunquit Playhouse artistic director Bradford Kenney told ET. A July 31 statement from the Ogunquit Playhouse reads, “There have been conflicting reports in the media regarding Valerie Harper’s condition after being admitted to the hospital Wednesday evening prior to going on stage at the Ogunquit Playhouse. Two months later, Harper brought that positive attitude to the 32nd Annual Fred & Adele Astaire Awards at NYU’s Skirball Center for the Performing Arts. After announcing her improved prognosis, Harper, known for her roles on Mary Tyler Moore and Rhoda, was one of the contestants on Dancing with the Stars.

On Friday, NECN’s Danielle Waugh in Maine said Harper’s husband and manager, Tony Cacciotti, had told the theatre company that the actress was “doing well.” According to the director, Valerie wanted everyone to know that once she got some fluids and rest her, she would be back to normal and performing again. She was enthusiastic about coming to Ogunquit, and never hesitated to make the commitment, Kenney said. “We had a long dialogue to make sure it was the right thing to do,” he said.
