Kevin Bacon Returns To Tremors.

There’s a TV series in the works reviving the sci-fi franchise Tremors — and original star Kevin Bacon is back on board as an actor and executive producer.

Universal Cable Productions and Jason Blum‘s Blumhouse Productions are developing the drama based on the 1990 cult hit, Andrew Miller (“The Secret Circle”) will write the script.According to Entertainment Weekly, Kevin Bacon, star of movies like X-Men: First Class and the television show The Following will return to his roots in a rebooted Tremors TV series.

Bacon starred alongside Fred Ward, Finn Carter, Michael Gross and Reba McEntire in the original film, about an isolated area of Nevada plagued by giant killer worms. “Tremors” gave birth to three direct-to-video sequels and a prequel, as well as the short-lived “Tremors: The Series,” which aired in 2003 on the Sci-Fi Channel. At the time, Bacon was unsure about the film, saying “I broke down and fell to the sidewalk, screaming to my pregnant wife, ‘I can’t believe I’m doing a movie about underground worms!’” Ward and Gross would return for the subsequent sequel, but Bacon did not. Earlier this year Bacon said he’d love to revisit the character. “I’d love to do something else with Tremors and revisit the character 25 years later,” he said. “Part of what’s great about that movie is there are next to no digital effects. The monsters are done with puppetry, and it’s still off, funny and scary — it’s a cool accomplishment.” UCP and Blumhouse are currently shopping the project around to various networks and we’re told “multiple bidders” are interested.
