New Kids On The Block announce new tour.

TLC launched a crowdsourcing campaign to fund their fifth and final studio album on Monday, and now they have unveiled plans to join New Kids on the Block and Nelly for a 1980s and 1990s music extravaganza, billed as The Main Event. Seattle Times music coordinator Paul de Barros has written about jazz and pop music for the paper since 1982 and is the author of “Jackson Street After Hours: The Roots of Jazz in Seattle.” On Twitter @pdebarros.

The boy band announced the news with TLC singers Rozonda ‘Chilli’ Thomas and Tionne ‘T-Boz’ Watkins during an appearance on ABC’s “Good Morning America” on Tuesday. Seattle native Gene Stout has been writing about popular music for more than two decades and has interviewed and profiled many of Seattle’s best-known musicians. The tour will make three area tour stops: in Bethlehem at Sands Bethlehem Event Center on Saturday, June 13, in Philadelphia at the Wells Fargo Center on Friday, June 19 and in Hershey at Hersheypark Stadium on Saturday, June 27 as part of the Mixtape Festival. Charlie Zaillian served as music director of Olympia’s influential KAOS-FM, has a particular affection for punk rock and has freelanced for The Seattle Times since 2011.

NKOTB, as New Kids is known by many fans, has kicked in $10,000 to help underwrite the album, bringing new meaning to the phrase “pay to play.” “We’ve decided to reform again — not that we’ve broken up, but we’re gonna go back on tour this summer,” NKTOB member Donnie Wahlberg said on the show. On Twitter @czaillian Mike Ramos is a Seattle native and freelance writer who has followed rap music since the early ’90s and can sometimes be heard DJing on KEXP FM. Alluding to the fact that the group’s once teen and tween-aged fans are older now, Wahlberg disclosed a more adult tone for the production for the upcoming NKTOB tour.

Specifically, the stage set up will include bar seats on the perimeter of the the stage. “Our fans can literally sit right on the stage and converse with us, hang out and heckle us, and we can share their snacks and drinks if we want to,” he said. And so does Nelly.” Tickets for the tour, which starts May 1 in Las Vegas and runs through July 2 in Buffalo, go on sale Jan. 31 through Live Nation.
