Eagles Of Death Metal in emotional return to Bataclan.

PARIS– After joining U2 during the band’s HBO-taped iNNOCENCE + eXPERIENCE concert in Paris, Eagles of Death Metal thanked Bono and the band for sharing the stage with them. The band made the emotional visit after a surprise return to Paris when they joined U2 on stage on Monday night, belting out the Patti Smith anthem People Have The Power. Last night marked EODM’s first visit to Paris since the Nov. 13 attacks that killed 130 people in the French capital including 89 people who were attending their show at the Bataclan concert hall. “We want to offer our heartfelt thanks and appreciation for everything our brothers in U2 did for us in the aftermath of the November 13 attacks. These are our brothers, they were robbed of their stage three weeks ago,” U2 frontman Bono said at the end of the last gig of their Innocence and Experience tour after the American band’s remaining European shows were canceled in the wake of the attacks.

In a Facebook post, the band thanked the Irish stars and said they had “reminded us that the bad guys never take a day off, and therefore we rock ‘n rollers cannot either… and we never will”. Band members laid flowers at the site under a persistent December rain, some embracing as they stared at the wreaths, notes and banners heaped in mourning and tribute. A helicopter hovered for two hours above the arena before the show and spectators were told to access the building, which seats up to 20,000 people, through a back entrance. U2, which provided the band with logistical help after the attacks, had denied it would appear on Sunday, when Patti Smith came onto the stage to close the first of two shows.

Solemn and silent, they came to the now-shuttered Bataclan theatre in eastern Paris, whose facade has become a shrine to the at least 89 people killed inside.
