The Who cancel 50th anniversary tour as Roger Daltrey is diagnosed with meningitis.

The band originally postponed just four dates of their North American tour when Roger came down with a mystery illness, but after extensive tests a doctor has prescribed rest for the musician meaning the tour can not go ahead. If you were looking forward to seeing The Who Hits 50! tour bringing the two remaining members of legendary British rockers The Who — singer Roger Daltrey and guitarist Pete Townshend — to Vancouver on Sept. 29 at Rogers Arena, you’ll have to hold on to that ticket for a little longer. “We are very sorry to disappoint our fans in this way,” Daltrey said in a press release. “For the last four weeks, I have been in and out of the hospital and have been diagnosed with viral meningitis.

As a result the band’s “The Who Hits 50!” tour has been postponed in its entirety. “I am now on the mend and feeling a lot better, but I am going to need considerable time to recover,” Daltrey said via the release. “The doctors tell me I will make a complete recovery, but that I should not do any touring this year.” Ticket holders affected by the cancellations will have their passes honored at the rescheduled dates, which will tentatively be in Spring 2016. But after the diagnosis, doctors prescribed a significant rest period, meaning that fans in 28 cities, including those here in Edmonton who had tickets for their Oct. 3 Rexall Place show – will miss out on hits such as Behind Blue Eyes, Who Are You and Pinball Wizard … for now.

It wasn’t a decision taken lightly–THE WHO always give their fans 100% and were never going to compromise the show, but ultimately the band had no alternative but to postpone the tour.’ Pete Townshend added: ‘We are rescheduling all the shows for next Spring 2016.
