Disney and Steven Spielberg team up to bring Roald Dahl classic to life in new movie.

Stories by Roald Dahl have been an integral part of our childhood. A young girl named Sophie, played by actress Ruby Barnhill, is told to never get out of bed and look out the window, and to never look behind the curtain. But when she does, she discovers the Big Friendly Giant – the BFG, played by English actor Mark Rylance, who needs the girl’s help to stop his human-hungry giant friends from eating children. Like now.’ Outside, Sophie sees a group of cats yowling after a metal trash can gets knocked over, and stares on in shock as a large hand grabs it and pulls it out of sight.

Viewers then see the young girl hurrying back to her bed, where she hides under the covers, as the hooded figure of the giant strides over to the orphanage window. Spielberg previously said: ‘In more than 40 years of making movies, I have been on the producing end of a number of films for The Walt Disney Company, but never as a director. ‘It is a special joy to be in the director’s chair as we start The BFG, alongside my long-time friends and film collaborators Kathy Kennedy, who introduced me to this project, Frank Marshall and Melissa Mathison.
