‘The Big Bang Theory’ recap: Wedding bell blues.

An event nine seasons in the making took place on the season premiere of “The Big Bang Theory” last night, though if you were disappointed, you weren’t alone. ‘The Big Bang Theory’s’ much beloved couple Leonard (Johnny Galecki) and Penny (Kaley Cuoco) have finally said the vows in the recent episode and after multiple tries they are now married in the series.IT’S the moment Big Bang Theory fans have been waiting for since Penny and Leonard first hooked up, and Kaley Cuoco-Sweeting just got everyone really excited about the big white wedding.LOS ANGELES — The long history of sitcoms says that series frequently take their lives — or at least, their laughs — in their hands when they begin pairing up and marrying off characters.

After getting over with Leonard’s confession of kissing a girl on the North Sea, the couple headed to Las Vegas to tie the knot in a chapel, reports E! But the duo’s troubles are not over yet as the upcoming episode of the hit series will show how Leonard will confront the woman he kissed to try to ease his new wife’s mind. Showrunner Steve Molaro confirmed season 9 will pick up in Las Vegas with the pair’s nuptials. “It’s season nine and Leonard has been pursuing her since minute three of the series,” Molaro told THR of why the timing was finally right. In a recent interview with Andy Cohen on Watch What Happens Live, Cuoco-Sweeting spoke about what it was like working with her ex-boyfriend on the show. After Sheldon () refused to give Amy () the proper amount of time to think things over about their relationship, she decided to make the separation permanent by breaking up with him completely.

That’s because a fight between the two — over a kiss he exchanged with a co-worker — sent them home from the Las Vegas mill where they tied the knot barely speaking to each other, retreating to their respective apartments. While the wedding itself didn’t look like a typical wedding (even Howard and Bernadette acknowledged it paled in comparison to theirs) it was not without its sweet moments. But given that Sheldon’s mother refused to take the engagement ring back right away, odds are this boy genius could still end up getting down on one knee in the future. At the same time, Leonard’s self-centered roommate Sheldon (Jim Parsons) is avidly if boorishly pursuing his sort-of girlfriend Amy (Mayim Bialik), who finally woke up to the fact in last season’s finale that he didn’t treat her particularly well. Leonard wrote his own physics inspired vows and Penny recited the lyrics to “You’ve Got a Friend in Me.” It wasn’t typical but it rang true to the couple and inspired some goose bumps.

Sheldon’s tone-deafness and lack of social graces has always been part of his charm, but the writers (six of whom, including co-creator Chuck Lorre, were credited with collaborating on the script and story) risk turning him into even more of a lout than usual should this arc persist along these lines much longer. In a sense, the episode sort of belonged to Stuart (Kevin Sussman), who has emerged as the neediest if not the nerdiest of the bunch – hitting on Amy in the midst of her breakup, before turning his attention to the newly wed but estranged Penny. Leonard could barely carry his blushing bride across the threshold, though Penny was not in any mood for consummating, especially after Leonard let another bomb drop. He corners her outside of her apartment and is shocked to hear that Amy has been invited to Bernadette’s to watch a live streaming version of Leonard and Penny’s wedding. But that doesn’t mean Penny and Leonard’s Las Vegas wedding ceremony wasn’t filled with love… even if their friends completely missed it being televised because they were too distracted by Amy and Sheldon’s bickering.

That said, the clock is ticking on how much longer the network will be able to keep the gang together, ratcheting up the pressure to help cultivate another hit before the show leaves behind a great big black hole in its schedule. Even in what was, for this series, a relatively clunky episode there were still some funny lines, such as Penny ad-libbing the Toy Story theme for her vows, or Sheldon cluelessly telling Penny that another woman is brilliant and attractive enough to “do way better than Leonard”. Though Penny had assured Leonard that she was over his brief cheating scandal, when the time came on their wedding night to “seal the deal,” she couldn’t stop picturing her new hubby with the other woman. The not-so-happy couple returned home and went to their separate apartments, leaving viewers to wonder if this will end up being the shortest marriage in TV history. When they start kissing, Penny can’t help but recall the deep, dark secret Leonard revealed on the way to Vegas — he had kissed another woman when he was on the trip to that North Sea.

Well, except Madame Curie who is obviously an honorary man with a penis made of science. “There’s a lot of gorgeous blondes out there who don’t believe they can land a short, near-sighted scientist.
