‘The Bachelorette’s’ Britt Nilsson, Kaitlyn Bristowe on “Awkward” Premiere Twist: “I Wasn’t Excited About It”.

The new season of ABC’s reality series presents a shocking (and, according to some, sexist) twist: The first broken heart will belong to a potential Bachelorette herself.

In a first for the venerable ABC dating series, two castoffs from the previous installment of The Bachelor — Kaitlyn Bristowe and Britt Nilsson — will be competing for the votes of the 25 eligible men to become season 11’s star. Scott Foley revealed in an interview with Us Weekly last week that he will be one of the millions of viewers tuning in to watch the season 11 premiere of The Bachelorette on Monday, May 18.

Bristowe and Nilsson spoke to reporters during a press conference to preview the season, with Bristowe acknowledging that the twist wasn’t exactly welcome. “It was definitely unexpected, and I was shocked,” Bristowe said of the news that she and Nilsson would be competing with each other. “I was kind of just beside myself because I didn’t know what to think. However, he tells HuffPost Live he has three words in response: Get over it. “I love that some people are upset about it, because we’ve hit a chord with the people who are upset. Below, after two conflicting PEOPLE staffers make a case for each of the would-be Bachelorettes, pick which lady you’d like to see embark on a journey to love. I wasn’t excited about it, but I just really had to take a step back and think of the light at the end of the tunnel.” Nilsson said she and Bristowe were able to support each other throughout the process and “laugh about it,” which helped to “tame down the awkwardness.” She continued: “It’s just a wild situation. One thing to note when watching Monday’s Bachelorette premiere: The mansion seen on TV is actually home to a family with small children in between filming! “There’s actually a family that lives there, and they will move out, the show films, and they’ll move back in,” Andy Baldwin’s jilted Bachelorette Peyton Wright Lambton, told Us. “I took a tour one day and the producer was like, ‘That’s the little girl’s room there.'” Erica Rose, who competed on both season 9 of and seasons 2 and 3 of Bachelor Pad, isn’t worried that her casts are invading a family’s space while filming, but instead worries about when they move back in after the final rose. “I hope they sanitize that place after the season ends, because there is a lot of hooking up that goes on — especially on Bachelor Pad,” she revealed.

It was fun, but yes, there were awkward moments, of course.” Bristowe explained that she wanted to believe that most of the guys were there to meet her, but she wasn’t sure if that was the case. But [I was] just a little more uncomfortable.” Although neither would reveal which of them emerged victorious, both said they were content with how things turned out. “I’m very happy,” Nilsson said, who admitted to having hit it off with “several” guys right away. Very quickly, you’ll forget there were ever two bachelorettes,” said Harrison, who reminded fans that a similar tactic was employed in 2004 with dueling Bachelors, Byron Velvick and Jay Overbye.

But don’t expect the guys to have an easy decision choosing their leading lady. “It’s pretty 50-50 of who the guys are there for, and it was a very interesting dynamic,” Harrison told HuffPost Live. Also, if you were in some bizarre, semi-polygamous group-dating scenario, wouldn’t you try to get the object of your affection to focus all of their attention on you? The Cape Cod landscaper pleaded behind the scenes with ABC production staff to let him leave the series, but when they wouldn’t budge, he appealed to Fedotowsky herself. “We weren’t in love, but we were in like.

So, it was actually kind of nice being in the dark because then those fears didn’t really have a chance to like creep up,” Nilsson told reporters in a pre-show conference call. She knew I wasn’t going to do it anyway.” For many more behind-the-scenes Bachelor and Bachelorette tidbits — including why Chris Soules had to be coerced to get active on a date with Whitney Bischoff, Bachelor buzz words defined, and more — watch the video above now! She’s beautiful, charismatic and about as sincere as you can get for a person who entered a reality TV dating competition to find love not once but twice. Also, her makeup game is on point. #TeamBritt –Amanda Michelle Steiner While Britt certainly brings the glamour, Kaitlyn, 29, has a girl-next-door feel with a touch of sass. With all due respect to Britt’s “I woke up like this” fuschia lips, Kaitlyn is all about natural beauty, championing Photoshop-free media in her series of RAW Beauty Talks.

So, if you’re looking for a Bachelorette with a sweet-yet-sharp tongue, aesthetic honesty and an endearing nervous tic of telling goofily off-color jokes, Kaitlyn’s your girl.
