Let’s Do The Time Warp again! Susan Sarandon and Tim Curry reunite with Rocky Horror Picture Show cast for 40 year anniversary of cult comedy-horror musical.

EW has beat back once more against the current of the pop-cultural timeslip to bring together the casts and creators of some of our favorite films and TV shows. Getting together for a special “reunions” issue of Entertainment Weekly, the stars reminisced about the campy 1975 musical that was initially panned by critics before becoming a cult classic.BBC America will air a special two-hour performance of The Rocky Horror Show from London’s Playhouse Theatre in honor of the show’s 40th anniversary later this month. “The Rocky Horror Show is a piece of our collective pop culture consciousness,” president and general manager of BBC America Sarah Barnett said in a statement. “Daring, fun and funny, unabashed and wildly entertaining, we think this brilliant new version of Rocky Horror will be embraced by our fans in the lead up to Halloween.” Rocky Horror creator Richard O’Brien will star as The Narrator, while Stephen Fry, Anthony Head, Adrian Edmondson, Emma Bunton, and Mel Giedroyc will all play guest Narrators. “I’m still in awe at the popularity of the show,” O’Brien said in a statement. “I wrote something I thought I might like to go see and it’s now lived successfully for more than 40 years in theaters around the world.

Curry, who portrayed Dr Frank N Furter, revealed he wanted to play the “sweet transvestite transsexual from Transylvania” as German, but changed his mind after a chance encounter. “One day I was on a London bus, and I heard a woman say, ‘Do you have a house in town or a house in the country?’ And I thought, ‘That’s it. The film follows a naive couple Janet and Brad who stumble across a castle, where mad scientist Dr Frank-N-Furter (played by Tim Curry) is holding a Annual Transylvanian Convention with a group of outlandish, over-sexed friends. That’s what he should sound like: the queen’,” he told Today in the US. “I got pneumonia,” the 69-year-old, who played newlywed Janet in the film, said. “The house itself had been used for other classic horror films, but they hadn’t put the roof back on.

Even though her impressive career also spans Thelma and Louise and an Oscar win for Dead Man Walking – Susan said she still gets fans approaching her about Rocky Horror. Even more impressive is the fact that Rocky Horror has been screening — at midnight matinees and special showings — for all four of those decades, giving it the longest continuous run in theaters in all of cinema history. So to celebrate this milestone — and in conjunction with the release of a special anniversary-edition Blu-ray — Tim Curry, Susan Sarandon, Barry Bostwick, Patricia Quinn, and Meatloaf reunited and talked with us about making the film that could never DIE! It was winter,’ she added. ‘I’ve had to do it numerous times,’ she explained of the iconic dance, which involves putting your hands in the air, then on your hips and making a raunchy pelvic thrust. It was raining right into the building,” recalls Sarandon, who caught pneumonia during the shoot. “I had to finally ask for something and they got a space heater and put kind of screens around it.

While most of the cast reunited, actor Richard O’Brien, who played Riff-Raff and also wrote the music, book and lyrics for the original Rocky Horror play and film, was absent from the gathering. The cult Rocky Horror movie is often shown at midnight screenings, where devoted audience members dress-up like the campy, over-sexed characters and sing along to the movie. The two-hour event will not be live, but will be directed, produced and choreographed by Kenny Ortega who also directed Hocus Pocus and the High School Musical trilogy. The innuendo-laden film – which includes such classic songs as Sweet Transvestite and Hot Patootie – is, however, unlikely to receive the same original R rating by today’s standards.
