10 best-dressed celebs from Sunday’s Emmys Awards.

The Emmy Awards is basically a giant excuse for television actors to get dressed up and show off their fashion credentials – and this year they didn’t disappoint.Though many rainbow hues showed up on the red carpet for Sunday night’s Emmy Awards, there were countless A-listers rocking classic black with a twist.

Swishy dresses and sparkly embellishment featured heavily on a red carpet that was full of colourful fabrics, though plenty of stars managed to steal the show in simple black. From drop-dead-gorgeous gowns to head-scratching what-was-their-stylist-thinking mishaps, some of some of the more memorable moments tend to happen during the pre-show fashion strut.

The seventies were the show-stopping look of the night with halter necks, jumpsuits, pant suits, Woodstock inspired lace dresses, ruffled maxi skirts and even curtain prints the A-list order of the day. For the rest of Tinsletown, it was all about spangled embellishment and colour with rich grape, bold magenta, canary yellow and citrus chartreuse stealing the spotlight from the sea of classic black frocks. CHRISTINA HENDRICKS: As always, “Mad Men” actress Christina Hendricks channeled old-school Hollywood, glimmering brighter than an Emmy in her golden Naeem Khan gown. Cersai requires her regal best back. 3/10 She got the seventies memo but then got a year 8 textiles student to make the dress for her by stapling some fabric to a piece of string around her neck. The hemline is also more ballroom dancing than ball gown. 4/10 The sartorial equivalent of this year’s vegemite chocolate_ the vegemite, while delicious on its own, was in no way complimentary to the chocolate. Henson’s Alexander Wang gown featured a sheer skirt, and would have been relatively subdued if not for the small triangular cutout and heavy silver chain straps. Here, the heavy chain detail ruined the delicate sequins. 6/10 Sofia always looks lovely, but she is quickly becoming this generation’s answer to Meryl Streep by constantly sticking to the same strapless-silhouette, hip-hugging, sparkly-fashion formula.

To use professional lingo she’s just a bit “meh”. 5/10 Looking like a mermaid who is too cool for a scaly tail, this Studio 54 inspired jumpsuit with sculpted bust, seashell brooch and pleated seaweed-inspired belt, is more costume than couture. 4/10 The presenter’s frock looks like three different dresses were sewn together to create a look that is far from sheer delight, and more Big Bird wearing a negligee. 2/10 The Modern Family mumma teamed with her sitcom theme with this ultra-modern cut-out neckline and bold sculptural hemline.
