Taylor Swift Debuts ‘Bad Blood’ Music Video Featuring Everyone.

LAS VEGAS — Taylor Swift debuted her action-filled music video for “Bad Blood” starring Selena Gomez and Lena Dunham and showcasing Swift as a fighting vixen. Leading up to its Sunday premiere, we knew Taylor Swift’s “Bad Blood” music video would be a cameo-fest of “We Are the World” proportions, with—deep breath—Selena Gomez, Kendrick Lamar, Jessica Alba, Lena Dunham, Hailee Steinfeld, Zendaya, and Cindy Crawford, among others, slated for an appearance. The music video featured Swift (aka Catastrophe) facing off against some of her most famous “frenemies,” with Kendrick Lamar rapping verses as his alter ego Welvin Da Great. For days, Swift has been tweeting mysterious, scary-looking clues about the video to her 57 million followers, and Internet anticipation reached a fever pitch over the weekend.

But the video’s sheer spectacle is still overwhelming: Over the course of four jam-packed minutes, Swift and her cohort of stilettoed assassins engage in every form of combat imaginable. In typical Swift fashion, she never mentions Perry by name, but has dropped enough clues in interviews that it’s fairly obvious that the former friends had a falling-out. Besides the video’s Robocop premise, there’s its Sin City aesthetic, its nod to Tron’s light cycles, and its Kill Bill-like fight in the snow—not to mention its many neo-noir flourishes, the most enjoyable of which is Dunham’s “Lucky Fiori” toking on a cigar.

Also of note: Lamar, er, “Welvin Da Great,” contributes two verses to the track, lending even more exposure to one of music’s great cross-genre friendships. One Direction, which recently downsized to four members, won the night’s first award for top duo/group. “There is one more person to share this with, and that’s our brother Zayn,” Liam Payne said of Zayn Malik, who left the group. The night is expected to include other top-notch performances, including ones by Mariah Carey, Britney Spears, Iggy Azalea, Nicki Minaj, David Guetta, Chris Brown, Pitbull and Ed Sheeran. Hosts Ludacris and Chrissy Teigen offered some jokes Sunday night: The rapper went on to describe why he’s a good host and namechecked his music and acting credits.

It as Swift’s all-female army of supermodels and actresses marches across an abandoned city, a huge fire blazing in the background as they go to fight Swift’s enemy once more. But beneath the sleek action-movie video production values, Swift sends a rather chilling underlying message about power in Hollywood: In case you didn’t know it before, she truly has become of the most powerful women in show business. Swift is also the lead nominee with 14 nominations, including top artist, top Billboard 200 album for “1989” and top Hot 100 song for “Shake It Off.” Sam Smith follows behind Swift with 13 nominations. Why else would she gather a collection of stars across all genres, all ages, and all walks of life to come together as she sings a song about an enemy?

King, while Charlie Puth and Wiz Khalifa will perform their dedication to actor Paul Walker, the No. 1 hit “See You Again.” And there may be a tribute to blues legend B.B. King, who died Thursday in Las Vegas. “At this point we are really not sure, but it will be acknowledged in the broadcast for sure,” executive producer Robert Deaton said in an interview Friday. “We are working on it,” executive producer Mark Bracco added. “There’s going to be a lot of emotion in the show in addition to a lot of fun.” Performers also include Meghan Trainor, Kelly Clarkson, Nick Jonas, Fifth Harmony, Hozier, Fall Out Boy and Jussie Smollett and Bryshere “Yazz” Gray from the hit series, “Empire.” Presenters include Idina Menzel, Khloe Kardashian, Kylie Jenner and Prince Royce. With her star-studded line-up, Swift is letting everyone know that she has the access, status and power to land a slew of top celebrities who will drop everything to do her a favor — not to mention appear in a video that requires some of them to dress up in leather outfits and throw weapons.

In other words, the “Bad Blood” video not-so-subtly serves as a warning that she doesn’t take kindly to people who turn against her; and she has some extremely influential people to back her up on that.
