New ‘Supergirl’ Teaser: A Closer Look At Her Villains.

We’re still more than a month out from the premiere of CBS’ entry into the superhero game, (not counting 1990’s The Flash), but just to make sure we don’t forget, the network has dropped a new Supergirl trailer, this one heavy on footage of the villains Superman’s cousin Kara will be facing off against in her debut season.Supergirl won’t debut on CBS until October 26, but the network released a new trailer on Monday night with a lot of new footage including a look at some of Kara’s powers plus a bunch of new villains. During tonight’s Supergirl trailer, fans got their first look at Justice Leak as Hellgrammite, a Superman villain created in the ’60s and then reinvented in the ’80s before finally ending up squaring off with the Man of Steel’s cousin starting later this year on TV.

The majority of the footage, however, is of Kara kicking some major tail with various powers. “Supergirl is an action-adventure drama based on the DC Comics character Kara Zor-El (Melissa Benoist), Superman’s (Kal-El) cousin who, after 12 years of keeping her powers a secret on Earth, decides to finally embrace her superhuman abilities and be the hero she was always meant to be. However, we did get a clear glimpse of Peter Facinelli’s Maxwell Lord, the morally ambiguous businessman (first seen in DC comics in 1987) who, in the comics at least, is a sometime ally/full time pain in the Justice League’s side. We also get a brief reference via a stray line of dialogue to the fact that, at least starting out, Superman and Supergirl are the only metahuman heroes the public is aware of. Protected and raised on Earth by her foster family, the Danvers, Kara grew up in the shadow of her foster sister, Alex (Chyler Leigh), and learned to conceal the phenomenal powers she shares with her famous cousin in order to keep her identity a secret. “Years later at 24, Kara lives in National City assisting media mogul and fierce taskmaster Cat Grant (Golden Globe Award winner Calista Flockhart), who just hired the Daily Planet’s former photographer, James Olsen (Mehcad Brooks), as her new art director.

Though Kara will need to find a way to manage her newfound empowerment with her very human relationships, her heart soars as she takes to the skies as Supergirl to fight crime.” The movie was a spinoff of the Christopher Reeve Superman series, it featured Jimmy Olsen (played by Marc McClure) as a supporting character, and also took pains to establish that Superman was until Supergirl’s appearance the only superhero on earth.
