George Strait Announces New Album, Las Vegas Engagement.

If you didn’t make it to ‘s farewell tour, The Cowboy Rides Away, you can now breathe a huge sigh of relief. Since the early 1980s, George Strait has been one of the biggest names in country music, and fans have flocked to see the King of Country live in concert.George Strait is set to begin his Cold Beer Conversation engagement next spring at the new Las Vegas Arena, the “King of Country Music” announced Tuesday (Sept. 22) during a live press conference streamed on his official website.

Martina McBride and George Strait perform during “George Jones Tribute — Playin’ Possum: The Final No Show,” on Friday, Nov. 22, 2013, at Bridgestone Arena in Nashville. The album’s lead single and title song will premiere at country radio on Wednesday (Sept. 23), and the album is set for release on Friday (Sept. 25) via iTunes, Apple Music and Walmart. The “Troubadour” singer now joins a slew of country acts who have performed or are currently performing in Las Vegas, including Garth Brooks, Shania Twain, Tim McGraw, Faith Hill, Reba McEntire, Brooks & Dunn and The Judds. The Vegas gig gives him the best of both worlds. “I said all along I wasn’t going to tour anymore, but I also said I wasn’t retiring,” said Strait. “I didn’t want to do another structured tour.

So I’m very excited about that.” The superstar had some time off between the end of his farewell tour and working on his new album, but he says he didn’t need to be pushed to get back to work. Strait, who after more than three decades of performing, completed his final tour last year, admits he just couldn’t stay away from the stage – and he always intended to continue to record and write. “When I’m sitting in a rocking chair somewhere, just play me a live album so I can hear the crowd again,” Strait added in a video interview shown at the press conference. “That’s what it’s all about.” You could win tickets to a 4-night luxury cruise with Florida Georgia Line!
