‘Star Trek 3’ Won’t Forget Where the Franchise Started, Says Simon Pegg.

“I’m really excited, Idris is an extraordinary actor and we’re trying to write him a kick-ass role,” said Pegg, who was attending CinemaCon in Las Vegas.

The next Star Trek movie opens July 8, 2016, but apart from that, little is definitive about the high-profile franchie entry that has experienced an unusually public course-correction.The third movie in the rebooted Star Trek franchise will be moving into production soon, but currently the movie is just being referred to at Star Trek 3 as no official title has been assigned to the film; however that may now have changed. While Pegg was silent on whether Elba’s role will be the franchise’s new villain – as Variety speculated in March – he did say that the role will be an entirely original character. We think of Star Trek as this huge thing, and it started out as these little thoughtful plays, you know … dealing with incredibly human and intellectual ideas.” Pegg also told MTV that he “thinks” that Idris Elba will appear in the movie, although he didn’t go as far as to fully confirm his appearance, saying “As far as I know, that’s happening,” joking, “I read these things on the Internet!.” He said that if cast, Elba would play an all-new character unfamiliar to audiences. But it will be there for the actor who continued to play his famed character Spock in the Star Trek film reboot. “In some way there is going to be an acknowledgement of (Nimoy). ‘Star Trek’ is his legacy.

Abrams and co-conspirator Damon Lindelof, two of the main creative steersman of the rebooted series; after Star Trek Into Darkness, Abrams moved to Star Wars and Lindelof returned to television. He was immortal in terms of the work he did and the effect he had.” On a joyful note, Pegg was definitely one of the millions of people who wept for joy at the new Star Wars: The Force Awakens teaser trailer that dropped last week and featured the return of Han Solo and Chewbacca. As for that Star Trek Beyond title, only time will tell whether it becomes the official title or not, but hopefully Paramount will provide an official title as the project moves into production… more if and when we hear. First came a new director: Justin Lin, the turnaround kingpin who helped transform Fast & Furious into a billion-dollar global enterprise; next, some new writers—including Simon Pegg, Trek actor and Comic-Con glamour boy.
