‘Sherlock’ Sets Victorian Special Premiere Date, Reveals First Trailer.

To the relief of Sherlockians, BBC’s popular series starring Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman, has confirmed the news of a special episode being aired. The BBC and PBS Masterpiece just announced premiere dates for the UK and the U.S. debuts of the eagerly awaited Victorian special edition of the acclaimed detective drama.Exactly two years after the third season of Sherlock premiered on the BBC, the series – a modern update of Arthur Conan Doyle’s famed detective with Benedict Cumberbatch in the titular role – will return with a special 90-minute episode, but with a twist: Instead of contemporizing Doyle’s stories, the one-off episode will take place in Victorian times. And the woman has now been issued with an official Police Information Notice (PIN) notice over harassment – which forbids her from contacting the actor. “It might be that she thinks it’s harmless, but it does feel a bit sinister.

Unlike the rest of the episodes, which are set in the 21st century, this one will be adhering to the Arthur Conan Doyle’s setting of the 19th century. The special, titled The Abominable Bride, will air on both PBS’ Masterpiece and the BBC on January 1st, marking the first time Sherlock has shared a U.S. The attention of his obsessive fan base even prompted the star to refuse to do autographs at the stage door of London’s Barbican theatre where he is currently appearing as Shakespeare’s Hamlet.

Cumberbatch, whose parents Timothy Carlton and Wanda Ventham are actors, has become one of the most in-demand names in movies following an Oscar nomination for his role in The Imitation Game as World War II codebreaker Alan Turing last year. Previously, American fans had to choose between patiently waiting or turning to pirate sites as their counterparts across the pond enjoyed the show first.

While that mystery has some time before it gets solved when the next season releases in 2017, this special episode will hopefully curb Sherlockians’ cravings to an extent. A trailer for the 90-minute one-off episode was also unveiled, with Holmes and Martin Freeman’s John Watson solving a murder in 18th century London, allowing the series to toy around with many of the staples of Doyle’s writing. Earlier this year he married theatre director girlfriend Sophie Hunter, 37, on the Isle of Wight, with telly judge Robert Rinder acting as his best man and guests including actor Tom Hiddlestone. At one point, Watson demands the detective put on his iconic deerstalker headwear because “You’re Sherlock Holmes, wear the damn hat.” In addition to the 90-minute special, Sherlock co-creator Steven Moffat recently revealed that production on the series’ fourth season – which will return to present-day London – would begin in spring 2016. The stalker alert came as Cumberbatch is back in the limelight, with new TV images showing him and Freeman playing Holmes and Watson as the original Victorian sleuths.

Sherlock also used to have wide gaps between its UK and U.S. air dates, but fan lobbying and widespread online piracy have considerably shrunk that window in recent years, and for the upcoming special the gap has basically been eliminated entirely. Mad Max will roar back out of the apocalypse while Mad Men rides off into the sunset, rock’s Antichrist Superstar and hip-hop’s Yeezus will rise again.

In a seven-year ordeal, Coronation Street actress Kym Marsh fell victim to an obsessed stalker who set up bogus accounts and posted pictures and messages pretending to be her. And a woman claiming she had an affair with Fatal attraction star Michael Douglas threatened to slice up his wife Catherine Zeta-Jones “and feed her to the dogs”.
