Selena Gomez Praises Justin Bieber’s Comeback: “This Is What I Always Saw In Him”.

The 23-year-old former child star praised her ex-boyfriend Justin Bieber while speaking with The New York Times about his recent comeback, stating that she’s always seen the talent in him. “While people were writing that I was stupid for being in [the relationship], this is what I always saw in him,” Gomez told The Times. “I’m like, duh!” “It’s all part of my story,” Gomez continued of her past relationship while referring to her new album, Revival. “I’m growing and changing. Snapped on the beach in her bathing suit by paparazzi, tabloids and Internet commenters quickly started weighing in on her curvier figure and apparent weight gain — calling her “fat” and telling her to work out. “I had a moment and was like, ‘Wait a minute? I was in a relationship, and I was being managed by my parents, and I was still under Hollywood and Disney, and I was being held to this expectation of being the good girl.” “I knew deep down that this wasn’t what I wanted to do — being exhausted of forcing something that wasn’t right, even in my personal life. You look at one image and then you’re on different pages, and then you are 52 weeks in, and it’s just a lot,” the “Same Old Lover” singer told Yahoo Style, adding she’s learned to “not give in to” haters.

And while she’s brushed it off, she is concerned for the younger generation, particularly her younger sister. “With social media there is so much access to people’s feelings and their hearts more than ever,” she added to the site. “I am so terrified for my little sister to go to school because everything has changed and gotten a little bit more intense.” “I think it’s equally as important to have [friends] who aren’t in the industry: I live with two roommates, and one of them’s a realtor and the other one works for a charity … Everything goes through me.” While talking with Elle recently, the “Good For You” songstress admitted she wants to separate herself from her past, but she’ll forever cherish Bieber as a friend. “I’ll forever support him and love him,” Gomez confessed. “We grew up together. It really upset me for honestly, maybe an hour, because I pulled myself out of it and posted a picture on Instagram where I’m laying down, and my comment back was like, ‘I’m happy with myself.’ Then the next day, that’s what all the headlines ended up becoming.

It sucked.” For Selena, flipping the script wasn’t just about shutting down the fat-shamers — it was also about setting an example to her more than 44 million Instagram followers and fans. “I wanted them to be able to be like, ‘Yeah, good. I could post a nude photo on my Instagram and it’s going to get picked up more than one article.’ I wouldn’t do that, but I could post anything and I know that is my voice and I’m able to control it.

I do feel like after a year of going through all my ups and downs — and I’m assuming they’re going to continue to come my way — but I feel really great about myself, I feel really happy.
