Diddy tops hip-hop rich list with $60m earnings.

Dr Dre may have released his long-awaited comeback album this year and been behind the NWA biopic Straight Outta Compton – but his place on Forbes’s Hip-Hop Cash Kings list has fallen.LAS VEGAS, NV – SEPTEMBER 19: (L-R) Singer Demi Lovato, rapper Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs and actor Wilmer Valderrama attend the 2015 iHeartRadio Music Festival at MGM Grand Garden Arena on September 19, 2015 in Las Vegas, Nevada. Sean Comb came in at number one on Forbes’s annual list of “The World’s Highest-Paid Rap Acts” earning $60 million last year, The Los Angeles Times reports. Harlem native Combs, 45, made an estimated $60 million (Dh220 million) between June 2014 and June 2015 according to Forbes’ calculations, from investments outside of music, such as his TV network Revolt and Ciroc vodka. It’s worth noting that while Sean Combs can technically still be classified as a rap artist, those stacks of cash overwhelmingly did not come from music. Releasing its annual list on Tuesday, Forbes said that Diddy — whose real name is Sean Combs and whose stage names include Puff Daddy — took in $60 million from June 2014 to June 2015.

In second place is rap mogul Jay Z (real name Shawn Carter), the 45-year-old founder of Roc Nation music group, who earned an estimated $56 million from business ventures in music, sports and lifestyle. Forbes calculated its list using pre-tax income figures from factors such as record sales, touring, streaming and endorsements using data from Nielsen SoundScan, the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) and interviews with managers, lawyers and in some cases, the artists themselves. Jay-Z’s finances were more musically focussed: profit from his joint concert with wife Beyoncé and entertainment company Roc Nation combined with additional earnings, thanks to his Armand de Brignac champagne.

Toronto rapper Drake has his own music to thank for his high placing – his 50 shows pulled in an average of $1m per night, while his album If You’re Reading This It’s Too Late went platinum.
