Sandra Lee Returning Home After Undergoing Double Mastectomy: ‘Today Is an Exciting Day’.

The Food Network star, who was diagnosed with breast cancer two months ago, was welcomed back to her Lily Pond home by her 10-year partner, New York Gov. The celebrity chef, 48, who is battling breast cancer and currently healing from a double mastectomy, shared a photo Monday to tell her followers that she is headed home. There is no place like home! #HappyMemorialDay,” Lee wrote on Facebook, sharing a photo of herself with Cuomo and her white umbrella cuckatoo, Phoenix, who want “to cuddle and cuddle and cuddle!” “Today is an exciting day!” an earlier post on her page read. “Sandra is going home to Lily Pond with her sister Kimber and Governor Cuomo. She is most excited to sleep in her own bed — and see Phoenix and Halo when she wakes up!” Lee, who was operated on Tuesday, was still shaky Saturday when she reported in an online video from her bed at a New York hospital that she lost 15 pounds in five days. Staff for Sandra Lee (l.) posted the photo at right on Facebook saying “we want to thank so many people for reaching out and taking the time to send such beautiful flowers, fruits, chocolates, notes and emails.” Lee had anticipated leaving the hospital Friday after her Tuesday surgery.

The 48-year-old TV chef went under the knife after undergoing a lumpectomy on one breast — and after her doctor warned she was a “ticking time bomb.” Women diagnosed with Lee’s condition — ductile carcinoma in situ, which many doctors consider a precancerous condition — have a 25% to 30% chance of a recurrence if they get a lumpectomy. Lee has also some celebrity friends in her corner who have been through similar ordeals — actresses Rita Wilson and Christina Applegate, both of whom had mastectomies.

After the double mastectomy six days ago, Cuomo took to Facebook to say that Lee was “doing as well as can be expected and has begun the post-surgery recovery process.” On Sunday, the chef’s team said that she was doing better “but she still has a ways to go.” They also thanked Lee’s fans and supporters on social media and several celebrities by name, including “GMA’s” Robin Roberts, singer Elton John and husband David Furnish, actress Rita Wilson, actress and breast cancer survivor Christina Applegate, singer Jon Bon Jovi, actress Judith Light, lifestyle guru Martha Stewart, celebrity chef Mario Batali, newscaster Bryant Gumbel and his wife Hillary, actress Jane Fonda and TV personality Dr.
