A female ‘Ocean’s Eleven’ reboot is in the works: Here’s who should star.

When Playlist first reported that Sandra Bullock would star in a reboot of Ocean’s Eleven with an all-female cast, our imaginations started to run wild. The 51-year-old actress will reportedly take on the lead role in the film, which is set to follow in the footsteps of the female Ghostbusters remake starring Kristin Wiig, Melissa McCarthy, Kate McKinnon and Leslie Jones. However, following the death of Weintraub this summer, it was feared the project had been shelved, but Soderbergh and Clooney are now said to be working with the latter’s ‘Gravity’ co-star Bullock, writer Olivia Milch and The Hunger Games director Gary Ross to bring the film to life, according to The Playlist. So, with the Miss Congeniality actress set to take on a similar role to that of Clooney’s smooth talking Danny Ocean, we take a closer look at just who the Ocean’s 11 are. This time, instead of butting heads, they can play old allies, with McCarthy as the perfect Rusty Ryan (played by Brad Pitt in Steven Soderbergh’s 2001 Ocean’s Eleven) to Bullock’s Ocean (George Clooney, previously).

Danny Ocean – George Clooney was perfectly cast in the role of this slick con-man who, after being released from prison, risks his parole with a plan to rob three Las Vegas casinos in one night. Olivia Milch, who has recently become an in-demand writer on projects like the adaptation of Greg Rucka’s Queen & Country comic, has written the screenplay. Now that Tess has had a taste of crime, maybe she could decide to go pro in the new movie. (Besides, we still don’t know where Tess was during Ocean’s Thirteen.) Though she could easily take over Don Cheadle’s role (and with an actual English accent!), we’d love to see Mbatha-Raw out in the thick of the heist, perhaps in character as a casino high-roller. Saul Bloom – Played by US comedy legend Carl Reiner, Saul was a veteran con-man hired by the team to impersonate an arms dealer with a special delivery in order to gain access to the casino’s vault. As for the rest of the cast, the template for the ensemble really allows anyone – regardless of age or race – to join, which could make for a really diverse group of women.

And since an announcement like this opens the flood gates for speculation and fan casting, we’ll put forward one of our own: Why hasn’t Lupita Nyong’o landed any major live-action roles since winning her Oscar? Though JLD could steal the show as any member of the gang, we think she could be the ideal villain for Bullock’s crew to rob — think a sinister Selina Meyer, with the resources to take down anyone who crosses her. Kunis is a little taller than Shaobo Qin, who played grease-man Yen, but her confidence and grace in Black Swan would easily translate into this role. Fonda has carefully honed the yes-thank-you-but-I-know-what-I’m-doing shade that Saul (Carl Reiner) constantly throws at his younger colleagues in Ocean’s Eleven.
