Grammy winner Sam Smith has surgery in Boston.

The surgery to stop recurrent vocal cord bleeding was performed by Dr Steven Zeitels, who has performed the same procedure on Steven Tyler, Lionel Richie and Adele. Smith, who underwent the procedure at Massachusetts General Hospital to repair a hemorrhage on his vocal cords, tweeted Thursday that he’s “flying” after waking up from the procedure. According to the hospital, Smith’s condition was the result of unstable blood vessels in the vocal cord that can rupture and prevent vocal performance. Zeitels expects Sam to make a full recovery from his laser microsurgery.” Smith was spotted in Boston last week and then posted Instagram pictures of himself in the hospital.
