Rumor: Will Supergirl Cross Over with The Flash?

‘Supergirl’ Scores Full-Season Pickup at CBS.

CBS announced today an order for seven more episodes of SUPERGIRL, providing a full season of 20 episodes for the freshman drama that launched on Oct. 26. The network’s sign of confidence comes a month after Supergirl launched to a 3.1 rating among adults 18-49 and 12.9 million viewers — making it the most-watched premiere of the fall season.

As the story goes, should Supergirl have it’s “Back 9” [episodes] commissioned, then there is a chance the last daughter of Krypton may be crossing into the Scarlet Speedster’s universe, or vice versa. In terms of what the story could look like for the potential crossover, Bleeding Cool reveals that it seems like it may be based on the New Krypton arc from the Superman comics, a story which saw DC villain Braniac freeing the trapped citizens of the “bottled city” of Kandor (a city formerly located on Krypton prior to it’s destruction), resulting in 100,000 Kryptonians seeking refuge on Earth. In other respects, however, the series is right in line with outgoing Entertainment chairman Nina Tassler’s quest for more dramas with strong female leads to follow in the footsteps of series like The Good Wife, Madam Secretary and CSI: Cyber.

The series stars Glee alum Melissa Benoist as Kara Zor-El, who was born on Krypton but has been hiding the powers she shares with her famous cousin since arriving on Earth. Supergirl’s full-season order is just the latest victory for executive producer Greg Berlanti, whose freshman drama Blindspot has already earned a season two renewal at NBC.
