Holiday TV: ‘Empire,’ ’12 Gifts of Christmas’.

The ever-expanding guest parade just keeps rolling by on Empire, which Wednesday combines performances by current guests Vivica A. LOS ANGELES — Rosie O’Donnell was delighted when “Empire” creator Lee Daniels invited her to guest star on the Fox drama, then got a case of nerves. “I’d watched the performances, and I’m stunned every week because I can’t believe the level of acting and the amount of (dialogue) and stories” in each episode, O’Donnell said. “I prepared for this like I’ve never prepared for anything in my career, because I didn’t want to disappoint and I understood the pace at which they work,” she said.

But his conduct became an issue at the Republican presidential debate in August, when Trump was asked to account for crude remarks he has made about women. TV’s Thanksgiving is generally devoted to football, parades and the official launch of a Christmas shopping season that the medium has been busily anticipating since before Halloween. In 2006, O’Donnell criticized him for remarks he made about a winner of his Miss USA beauty pageant, saying he had no right to be a “moral compass” for the beauty queen.

Ideally, we’d wait until one holiday was over before moving on to the next — but as this latest Hallmark Christmas movie is airing after most people have probably finished their feasts, we’ll give the network a pass. In turn, O’Donnell questioned Trump’s business skills and hairstyle and compared him to a “snake oil salesman.” O’Donnell, a former co-host of the morning talk show “The View,” made her remarks Monday while discussing a guest starring role on Wednesday’s episode of Fox’s drama series “Empire.” CBS follows a Big Bang repeat with original outings of its other Thursday series, starting with Life and including Mom (9 ET/PT), which features guest spots by David Krumholtz and Amy Hill, and Elementary (10 ET/PT). Daniels’ call came a couple years after O’Donnell bumped into him at a New York theater and complimented him on the 2009 Oscar-winning film “Precious,” which Daniels directed. “I was honored and shocked and thrilled” when he called about the “Empire” role, O’Donnell said, adding that’s she a fan of the show and tweets about it. “He said, ‘I just want to tell you that I have a lot of respect for who you are and how you use your voice socially,’ “ O’Donnell recalled. “He said everything you would dream a 20-year-old kid — like the one at home on my couch, who never says that to me — would say to you.”
