Roger Daltrey’s meningitis puts The Who’s tour on hold.

A statement on the Who’s website said the shows would be rescheduled for spring 2016 and added: “The band apologise to fans and realise that the postponement will cause an inconvenience for ticketholders. “It wasn’t a decision taken lightly – the Who always give their fans 100% and were never going to compromise the show, but ultimately we had no alternative but to postpone.” Daltrey said: “I am now on the mend and feeling a lot better but I am going to need a considerable time to recover. The band originally postponed just four dates of their North American tour when Roger came down with a mystery illness, but after extensive tests a doctor has prescribed rest for the musician meaning the tour can not go ahead. If you were looking forward to seeing The Who Hits 50! tour bringing the two remaining members of legendary British rockers The Who — singer Roger Daltrey and guitarist Pete Townshend — to Vancouver on Sept. 29 at Rogers Arena, you’ll have to hold on to that ticket for a little longer. “We are very sorry to disappoint our fans in this way,” Daltrey said in a press release. “For the last four weeks, I have been in and out of the hospital and have been diagnosed with viral meningitis. The doctors tell me I will make a complete recovery, but that I should not do any touring this year.” Bandmate Pete Townshend added: “We are rescheduling all the shows for next spring 2016. But after the diagnosis, doctors prescribed a significant rest period, meaning that fans in 28 cities, including those here in Edmonton who had tickets for their Oct. 3 Rexall Place show – will miss out on hits such as Behind Blue Eyes, Who Are You and Pinball Wizard … for now.

The band, whose 50th-anniversary tour has taken them to the UAE, Europe and the U.S. since last November, promises to reschedule all cancelled dates in spring 2016.
