Pattinson angered by racial abuse of FKA twigs.

Twilight fans may have been shocked when Robert Pattinson officially moved on from Kristen Stewart with British singer FKA twigs, but he couldn’t believe the racial abuse she received online in retaliation. “I was talking to my dad about this and I bet him that if he looked up Nelson Mandela’s funeral on YouTube, the first comment would be a racist one,” he says. “And it was, with like a million upvotes.

LONDON, Sept 26 — Actor Robert Pattinson has spoken out against the online racial slurs directed at his fiancée FKA twigs in an interview with UK’s NME magazine. The ‘Twilight’ star made no secret of his anger on the online abuse that FKA twigs, 27, has received, saying that the commenters are “just demons who live in basements”. “You have this weird thing where you end up trying to fight against this faceless blob, where the more you hate it, the bigger it gets, because it’s all in your head,” the 29-year-old actor said.

The 29 year-old British actor shot to fame after portraying lovelorn vampire Edward Cullen in the adaptation of Stephanie Meyer’s smash hit YA novel series TWILIGHT, and his subsequent romance with co-star Kristen Stewart made him a target of paparazzi all over the world. For a while, the actor simply tried his best to ignore the intrusive photogs who hounded him relentlessly, and when Kristen Stewart’s exposed tryst with her SNOW WHITE AND THE HUNTSMAN director Rupert Sanders was made public, the fallout was right on Pattinson’s doorstep and he seemed to disappear for a while. When he re-emerged from his self-imposed exile, he did everything he could to shed his hearththrob status by attaching himself to more personal and exciting projects like COSMOPOLIS, THE ROVER, MAPS TO THE STARS, and Werner Herzog’s period drama QUEEN OF THE DESERT with James Franco and Nicole Kidman.

He describes FKA twigs to the magazine as “just an amazing, amazing artist.” In the same interview, Pattinson, who is currently shooting The Lost City of Z with Charlie Hunnam and Sienna Miller, admits he still can’t resist Googling himself on occasion out of a “weird compulsion” to “reinforce my negative opinion of myself.” “I go through periods where I don’t do it at all and feel glorious!” he says. “Then I’ll fall back into this pit. It’s always that person who’s needling away at you, who you either want to destroy, or convince them to love you.” Today the actor views the Twilight years of his life – and the rabid fandom that came with it – “something that ended up being quite helpful.

I was living a massively accelerated life, compacting a billion different experiences, having to comprehend so many different things… there was definitely a bad side, but it was fun. I think it’s because most normal people are not commenters – I’ve never met anyone who’s left a comment on anything.” He makes a great point.
