‘Pretty Little Liars’ Season 6B Primer: Where Things Left Off and What’s Ahead.

Wtih Pretty Little Liars currently enduring its longest hiatus to date, the show decided to put together a special unscripted episode to help tide fans over until its Jan. 12 return. Complete with behind-the-scenes tours, cast interviews, and a few never-before-seen clips, the special will give viewers insight into what happened during the five-year time jump. After years of being tormented by “A,” it seemed like the Liars were finally about to catch a break when the latest mastermind behind the terror, Charles DiLaurentis — aka CeCe Drake (Vanessa Ray) — declared “game over,” but in a short glimpse at a time jump five years later, someone else was threatening the group.

MARLENE KING: It really is myself and Oliver Goldstick and some other department heads who work on the show — like hair and makeup and props and the art department — talking about everything we did to prepare for the time jump, and the actors as well. Even though viewers were just given a sneak peek at where the girls are post-college, Tuesday’s new special, Pretty Little Liars: 5 Years Forward, will offer some more teases from creator I. Mitchell mentioned in an interview, “We always spoke about Emily wanting to go to California, and Paige left and went to California so that could be maybe a little reason.” There is a five-year gap between the events of season 6A and 6B of “Pretty Little Liars.” Aria and Ezra split in the first half of the season, and they still have not reunited in the next five years, too.

The special went back and forth between the Liars, the men of “PLL” Ian Harding, Keegan Allen and Tyler Blackburn, and Sasha Pieterse all talking to King about the series. Moving forward, we do have flashbacks, we’ll see some of what has happened in the past, but we just thought this was a really fun way to keep PLL in everybody’s lives. In Season 6A’s prom episode, Caleb asked Hanna to move to New York City with him, so after graduation, the couple moved into a tiny apartment in Tribeca.

I know this is the hardest hiatus for everyone because it’s the longest so whenever we can give the fans one episode to talk about and watch, it seems to help everybody ease the pain of such a long hiatus. In addition to graduating from college at Hollis and becoming a teacher, most of her time has been spent helping her sister, Charlotte, and eventually trying to get the girls to help the DiLaurentis family with the messy court case. We get to see a clip that we actually shot for the finale and the episode was so jam-packed that we just ran out of time and didn’t have time to show it, so we get to see a nice moment between Alison and Jason and Charlotte that happened after the finale.

Hale told People that Aria has moved on to a new relationship and is “very happy and in love.” Professionally, she wrote and published a book, called A Majority of None, and is in the middle of promoting it when she is reminded of Ezra. All the characters really touch on what they’ve been doing over the past five years and some of that is relationship-based, some of its school-based, some of it is also professional, where they are in their careers.

In a never-before-seen scene that took place three months after graduation, Ali and Jason visit Charlotte at Welby State Psychiatric Hospital, where she’s being treated by one Dr. She is now a seasoned world traveler after joining the fashion world — even seen flying first class in the 6B premiere — and revealed at New York Comic-Con that her fashionista life is “like The Devil Wears Prada.” Spencer hit the ground running in D.C. politics and it’s actually all in the family — her mom, Veronica (Lesley Fera) is running for Senate. Ali and the good Dr. start an inappropriate relationship that they have to keep on the DL (that’s not a first for Ali). “He treats her really well,” Sasha Pieterse said. Although Spencer and Toby (Keegan Allen) didn’t officially break up in season six, their long-distance relationship may not have lasted over five years. King reveals Emily comes back to Rosewood with a secret she hasn’t told the rest of the Liars, and is the most damaged out of all four of the girls.

I think Hanna has changed a lot because she was the one who came to care the least about her future and college and moving forward and she’s on a very successful career path when we meet her. When fans see this, they’ll get a real sense of what the show’s going to look like when we come back in January and how much more grown up it is and also just how thrilling it is. Toby inherits a large sum of money from the explosion “A” set off in his childhood home, and buys land outside of Rosewood so that he can build his dream house. While still a police officer in Rosewood, he accidentally walks in on a robbery and apprehends the suspect who ends up becoming an important character in season 6B.

After Aria leaves for college, Ezra follows a character named Cole down to South America for a Habitat for Humanity style project, but it is then taken away from him “quickly and violently.” When Ezra returns to Rosewood, he has no sense of who he is and what he wants to do with his life, and finds solace in alcohol. Mona says she invited the Liars, but “it was in vain.” Alison says she’s been writing with Hanna, Mona says she and Hanna crashed a party at Matt Damon’s house, and Alison says Emily has been seeing Paige.

Mona then leaves but waits outside and listens to Alison making a phone call saying, “M0na was here and she wants to see Charlotte…” Once they return to Rosewood, the girls begin to get receive messages again.
