Netflix Announces ‘Longmire’ Return Date.

BEVERLY HILLS, Calif. – When “Longmire” returns for its fourth season Sept. 10 on streaming service Netflix, the theme of second chances will be appropriately – if coincidentally — prominent. The wait is over (almost) for Longmire fans: Netflix announced Tuesday that new episodes of the modern-day western drama starring Robert Taylor as lawman Walt Longmire, will be available for viewing Sept. 10. Executive producers Greer Shephard and Hunt Baldwin said that theme was already in the works before the show’s surprise cancellation at A&E. “Who are you as a person and is it defined by how you handle second chances,” Ms. Shephard said of season four’s theme. “There are a lot of ways people can rebuild themselves after devastating experiences and we explore that theme through each of our characters.” Series star Robert Taylor, who plays Walt Longmire, said he learned of the A&E cancellation via text and it took a few weeks to make peace with the news. A fan campaign to save the series preceded its pickup by Netflix, which will launch season four in the U.S., Canada, Australia and New Zealand simultaneously.

Ted Sarandos, Netflix’s chief content officer, described the show’s fans as “hungry” and “passionate,” who without the service’s fourth-season pickup “wouldn’t get to watch the show because they were the wrong age” to fit in the most profitable advertising demographics. They are coming in at a time after we made it through most of the summer TV season, but also before the major networks start to air some of their heavy hitter shows.

Shephard said. “Just because we can be more permissive and have the ability to have more vulgarity or graphicness, we did not want to alienate the incredible fan base we consider responsible for our survival.” A gunshot capped off their angry encounter – so, presumably, the Season 4 premiere episode will let us know who, if anyone, got shot, and whether the gunfire was fatal. Netflix announced today that season 4 is going to be picking up mere moments after the season 3 finale, meaning that we will get to see whether or not Barlow really shot his son Branch after he started to figure out what really happened with the death of Walt Longmire’s wife.

In addition to Taylor and Chase, series regulars Lou Diamond Philips (Henry Standing Bear), Katee Sackhoff (Victoria “Vic” Moretti), Adam Bartley, Cassidy Freeman (Cady Longmire), Louanne Stephens (Ruby) and Derek Phillips (Travis Murphy) also will be back in action when Longmire returns Sept. 10. That being said there was such an extensive campaign from fans all over the world to bring “Longmire” back for another season and here we are with another season because of all of that hard work and dedication.
