‘Power Rangers’: Becky G. to Play Yellow Ranger

Meet the brand new Pink, Black, Red and Blue Power Rangers.

Becky G., also known as Rebbeca Marie Gomez, is a singer, songwriter, rapper and actress. The new movie, based on the Mighty Morphin’ Power Rangers TV series, will be directed by Project Almanac’s Dean Israelite, and see the rangers’ powers become more than super but mystical too.

Singer-songwriter Becky Gomez has joined Lionsgate’s “Power Rangers” film as the Yellow Ranger, the studio announced via the film’s official Instagram account. Gomez, who also goes by Becky G., will join the recently cast Dacre Montgomery as the Red Ranger, Naomi Scott as the Pink Ranger, Ludi Lin as the Black Ranger and R.J. It was recently reported that the cast will not be playing the characters from the original mid-1990s television series, but the Rangers will be associated with their original dinosaur-inspired giant robot zords. Additionally, the film will shoot in Vancouver from January to April in 2016 and feature Scorpina, “the ruthless and dangerous minion of Rita Repulsa,” as an antagonist. While Gomez would seem to complete the roster of rangers, the original series eventually introduced a Green Ranger as antagonist and eventual friend of the core team.

The 1993 television series “Mighty Morphin Power Rangers” followed teenagers Jason, Kimberly, Trini, Billy and Zack, who were chosen by the ancient being Zordon to defend Earth from attack against the forces of Rita Repulsa.
