Kerry Washington Designs Purse to Raise Funds for Domestic Violence Services: ‘It Is a Symbol of a Woman’s Financial Domain’.

The Scandal star looked gorgeous in the black sleeveless top and short floral skirt which showed off her toned legs as she stopped by AOL Builds to discuss the new season of Scandal and her anti-domestic violence work on Friday. Despite being passionate about women’s empowerment and domestic violence issues for years, Scandal actress Kerry Washington had never heard of financial abuse – the tactics abusers use to keep victims feeling trapped, like restricting their access to credit cards or legal and financial support. “It turns out that 98 percent of all domestic violence cases involve financial abuse, so it’s a huge reason for why women stay in abusive relationships and why they go back after they leave,” Washington tells PEOPLE. “They feel they don’t have the tools to take care of themselves and their families.” When the Allstate Foundation approached Washington to design a purple purse to promote the issue in 2014, she didn’t quite understand the purse part – until it really clicked. “Abuse is hard to talk about, so we thought a purse is a beautiful object that can get the conversation started,” Washington says. “It is a symbol of a woman’s financial domain.” This is the second year Washington has designed a bag for the Allstate Foundation Purple Purse campaign.

Kerry Washington’s red carpet hairstylist, Takisha Sturdivant-Drew, dished to Us Weekly on her favorite Olivia Pope hairstyle, keeping the star’s hair healthy, and more At long, long last: Scandal returns to Us tonight!“Scandal” star Kerry Washington opened up Thursday about the new status of her character Olivia Pope’s relationship with President Fitzgerald Grant (Tony Goldwyn) — which will be the focal point of the show’s fifth season, premiering Thursday night. “In television, we tend to think when two people come together that’s the end,” Washington said on “Good Morning America.” “But in life, when two people come together, that’s the beginning. Last time we checked on Olivia Pope () and her band of gladiators, they were busily murdering randoms in order to take down Papa Pope (Joe Morton), aka Olivia’s deranged father.

This comes after Washington told the Television Critics Association’s tour this summer that even she was surprised by the new season’s devious plotline. Patrick’s Cathedral. “I love Jake (played by Scott Foley) too so we’ll all just have to hang in there and see what happens,” she said, referring to cliffhanger from last season. “The opportunity to combine the passion of empowering women and anti-violence against women it was like whoa, that’s me,” she told Confidenti@l after her brush with the Pope. “I really love doing this.” Washington’s Purple Purse, designed with help from the husband and wife team of Dee Ocleppo and Tommy Hilfiger, will be available at Saks Fifth Avenue. On Thursday, the star was bombarded by selfie-seeking fans outside of the “Good Morning America” studios in New York Thursday — prompting security to push fans away and quickly usher her to her car.

The actress remained cordial the whole time but appeared frazzled by the incident in the few moments before police and security could break the crowd up. For the love of ShondaLand, what about Jake Ballard?!’ Give a warm welcome to Princess Emily of Caledonia (hi, made-up country!), who almost immediately died in a car accident while visiting D.C. with her royal family. I get sad when Scandal’s coming back, because Kerry comes to me and says, ‘Okay, Takisha, we have to tone it down!'” she confessed, laughing. “But I love the light in her hair, you know?

Yep, Princess Emily and her unborn child were killed because she was having an affair with the bodyguard. #drama Poor Mellie (Bellamy Young) was thrilled when Fitz showed up at her swearing in ceremony (she’s officially a senator!), but the twist? Apparently, he spent the hiatus sleeping on Olivia’s couch waiting for her to finish sexing Fitz, and spent most of this episode shaking and crying while Olivia was just like, “Yikes.” Luckily, Huck turned to Jake for help at the end of the episode, so hopefully he’ll regain what’s left of his sanity soon.
