‘Guardians of the Galaxy 2′ Finds Newcomer for Mystery Role (Exclusive).

Just as Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 has found a new name to potentially join the “bunch of jackasses standing in a circle,” reports claim that one very big name won’t be joining James Gunn’s Marvel follow-up. McConaughey, flesh off the success of his Oscar-winning turn in “Dallas Buyers Club” and acclaimed stint on “True Detective,” is in high demand in Hollywood and is one of the few high-profile actors not conscripted for a super hero film. Marvel and Gunn wanted Matthew McConaughey to play the villain in the superhero sequel, but the actor recently passed, leaving the search for that part still in progress.

Some felt this implied that male extras are allowed to be either quirky or good-looking, while women could only be hot if they wanted to make it into the sequel. He recently wrapped the historical drama, “The Free State of Jones.” Gunn has already turned in the script for “Vol. 2,” which is set for a May 5, 2017 release. The Mary Sue said: ‘If this is what women have to put up with to break into Hollywood, then it makes sense why we’re lacking in representation of body types and looks on the big screen. ‘The problem starts here at the source, at the entry-level work that’s being offered to women.
