SONY Announces POWERS Playstation Network Debut With A New Poster.

Brian Michael Bendis, the co-creator of the comic book series that is the show’s source material, announced that Powers will premiere on the PlayStation Network on March 10.The first original live-action series for PlayStation Network, which follows a detective who investigates cases that involve people with super powers, will be available for members of Sony’s PlayStation Plus service, but the first episode will be free for everyone at PlayStation.com/Powers.

Bendis also is the “Powers” series’ executive producer. “I’m happy to report that production has wrapped on all 10 episodes of ‘Powers,’” Bendis posted on PlayStation’s blog early Tuesday. “Under the skillful hands of our showrunners Charlie Huston and Remi Aubuchon (“Falling Skies”), our amazing directors, writers, cast and crew, the episodes are coming together beautifully.” “Powers” represents PlayStation’s biggest foray into producing original scripted content to date, after having focused largely on videogames over the past two decades. Plus is Sony’s service that allows PlayStation 3, 4, and Vita players to play games online, take advantage of special deals and download new games each month for a yearly fee of $49.99.

After the initial three episodes, a new episode will debut every subsequent Tuesday, and Bendis will appear on Late Night with Seth Meyers tonight to discuss more about the show. Powers, the story of two detectives investigating crimes in a world of superhumans, is the first scripted live-action series produced for Sony’s PlayStation Network. As PlayStation looks to broaden the appeal of its videogame console and turn it into more of a hub for all forms of entertainment, the company, like Netflix and Amazon, is pursuing exclusive TV shows and movies as a way to attract more users and generate additional revenue. PlayStation Plus passes provide access to free games, multiplayer modes, PlayStation Store discounts and online storage across the PlayStation 4, PS3 and PS Vita systems. “Powers” stars Sharlto Copley (“District 10″) and Susan Heyward (“The Following”) as lead detectives Christian Walker and Deena Pilgrim, with Michelle Forbes, Eddie Izzard, Noah Taylor, Logan Browning and Olyesa Rulin playing heroes and villains. Sony Pictures Television developed the show and oversaw its production, backed with a budget that’s comparable to most primetime cable series, or around $2 million per episode.

The series also features Noah Taylor as criminal mastermind Johnny Royalle, Eddie Izzard as Copley‘s dangerous former mentor Wolfe, Michelle Forbes plays superpowered superstar Retro Girl, Olesya Rulin plays Power Calista, and Logan Browning rounds out the cast as the very powerful and very young Zora.
