Drake’s Slaying of Meek Mill: How the Rappers Went From Best of Friends to Best of Enemies.

Councillor Norm Kelly (open Norm Kelly’s policard) has officially been invited to the 6th annual OVOFest, according to Drake’s Instagram account and much to the delight of many who’ve been keeping an eye on the drama surrounding the rapper and the councillor this week. In response, Drake released “Charged Up” followed by “Back to Back Freestyle,” the latter making fun of Mill’s relationship with Nicki Minaj, who he is currently opening for on tour.Meek Mill finally fired back at Drake in their social media fueled feud Thursday night, dropping the diss song “Wanna Know” on New York’s Hot 97 radio station.

In the early hours of Friday, Drake posted a picture of the councillor on his Instagram account, captioned “6th Annual OVO Fest this weekend. @welcomeovo.” The two have become unlikely allies in recent days, with the Twitter-savvy Ward 40 councillor coming out in full force to support Drake, whom he calls a “Canadian hero,” in Drake’s ongoing Twitter feud with Philadelphia rapper Meek Mill. Meek Mill’s response to Drake’s bashing is the track “Wanna Know,” which includes the line, “I just wanna know, if you ain’t write that running through the six s—/Tell us who the f— Quentin out here running through the six with?” The song also features what appears to be rapper Quentin Miller — Drake’s supposed ghost writer — singing a reference track for the recent Drake song “Know Yourself.” The cover art for the song shows Drake’s face photoshopped over a member of infamous lip-syncers Milli Vanilli, with a drawing of a ghost behind him. In the first verse, Mill raps, “Now when that s–t went down with Chris, you wrote a check / In New Orleans wore my chain to get respect (you a fraud) / So what that tell me?

After all, Drake had just unleashed not one, but two impressive diss tracks against Nicki Minaj’s boyfriend in the same amount of time it took him to cook up “Wanna Know.” The latter of these, “Back to Back,” took the Internet by storm when it was released early Wednesday morning, with Drizzy asking Meek, “Is that a world tour, or your girl’s tour?” and claiming that Meek was nothing more than Nicki’s wife. Mill responded saying, “U sound like a thug lol.” Mill was booed after he showed up almost 90 minutes late, reportedly because he’d been held up at the U.S. Recently, a former senior advisor to president Barack Obama called the feud “brilliant marketing” tweeting: “I am ambivalent on Meek Mill as a rapper, but baiting Drake into a week long feud just as his album dropped is brilliant marketing.” OVOFest, a festival organized by Drake for the sixth year in a row, runs Saturday through Monday at the Molson Canadian Amphitheatre, featuring performances from the rapper himself, J. A couple of weeks later, while Meek was opening for Drake on the latter’s “Club Paradise” tour, the two rappers and Chris Brown got into a three-way Twitter spat over Rihanna, who both Brown and Drake officially dated and Meek was rumored to be dating, with Meek and Drake forming a united front of sorts against Breezy.

While that was perhaps less a gesture toward Meek and more toward the students, with Drizzy unveiling the fit during a tour stop in Philly, it was still an act of goodwill. “This is about you. The comedian Kevin Hart posted an Instagram photo of himself wearing a black leather sleeveless shirt, and Drake and Meek both had a ball shaming him for the sartorial gaffe: Last month, Mills and Drake collaborated on another song together, “R.I.C.O,” off Meek’s new album Dreams Worth More Than Money. And though the album performed well and spent two weeks in the No. 1 spot on the Billboard 200, Meek was a bit peeved that Drake did not do enough to promote the song.
