J.K. Rowling Shares the ‘Harry Potter’ Family Origins.

In an overhaul today of J.K. The Potter family tree begins with the 12th-century wizard Linfred of Stinchcombe described as ‘a locally well-beloved and eccentric man, whose nickname, “the Potterer”, became corrupted in time to “Potter”.’ Rowling writes: ‘Historians credit Linfred as the originator of a number of remedies that evolved into potions still used to this day, including Skele-gro and Pepperup Potion. ‘His sales of such cures to fellow witches and wizards enabled him to leave a significant pile of gold to each of his seven children upon his death.’ Pottermore has been given a makeover with a new look and its very own Pottermore correspondent ‘dedicated to reporting on all the latest updates going on in the Wizarding World’.She’s the success story of modern British literature and he’s the boy wizard who made her name – so it makes sense that JK Rowling is back in the Harry Potter habit.

New writing by JK is at the core of the site which also features the never-before-seen article revealing the history of the fictional Potter family from its illustrious beginnings in the twelfth century. The site relaunched a “newly imagined” version Tuesday with an introductory note from Rowling, and an essay from the author, explaining the Potter family’s history. Now Rowling has filled in the centuries between Harry’s arrival at Hogwarts and the origins of the Cloak as one of the Deathly Hallows of wizarding lore in a new post on her re-launched publishing website, Pottermore – and proved Ron Weasley right in the process. It was, Iolanthe explained to Hardwin, a tradition in her family that the possession of this cloak remained a secret, and her new husband respected her wishes. The new blog post starts by using Harry’s veritable wizard notoriety as a base for the reach into the past, and although she acknowledges that, Potter is a not uncommon “Muggle surname”, as a wizarding dynasty the name has always had some clout.

Along with providing new short stories to Pottermore, Rowling is working on the film adaptation of her “Harry Potter” spinoff, “Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them” as well as a stage production called “Harry Potter and the Cursed Child,” set to open in London 2016. Ron suspected that Harry’s cloak may be the same as that created by Peverell due to its good condition – traditionally Invisibility Cloaks wear out over time, and Harry’s had originally belonged to his father, James. From this time on, the cloak was handed down to the eldest in each new generation.” Pottermore also announced Tuesday, via a news release, a redesigned site that will allow readers to consume content in an entirely different way than when it was launched in 2012.

Following James’s death, at the hands of Lord Voldemort, Hogwarts headmaster Albus Dumbledore kept the cloak in his safekeeping until Harry enrolled at the school.
