Netflix Orders Another Comedy Series Starring Will Arnett.

After starring in Netflix’s revival of Arrested Development and the original animated series Bojack Horseman, Will Arnett is returning to the streaming service for his next comedy, Flaked. The eight-episode comedy, set in the insular world of Venice, Calif., is about a self-appointed guru who falls for the object of his best friend’s fascination.

Following the success of ‘BoJack Horseman,’ Netflix has officially ordered Will Arnett’s new guru comedy ‘Flaked’ for a full season in 2016. Arnett, who also lends his voice to Netflix’s BoJack Horseman and starred on Arrested Development, co-created and co-wrote the series with Mark Chappell. Soon, “the tangled web of half-truths and semi-bullshit that underpins his all-important image and sobriety begins to unravel,” according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Described by Arnett as his “passion project,” the series is set in Venice, California, and will follow Chip (played by Arnett), a “guru” who keeps up an image based on lies…a character, in short, you can imagine Arnett playing with ease. “Flaked” is produced by Electus and Principato-Young for Netflix. Netflix ordered eight episodes of the comedy, which will begin streaming exclusively on the service in 2016. “We’re very excited to partner with Netflix—the home of original, original content—and the network I knew would be the ideal home for this passion project,” the actor said in a statement.

Both will executive-produce with Ben Silverman, Peter Principato, and Arrested Development’s Mitch Hurwitz. “We are thrilled to be the home of Will Arnett’s next series, and look forward to Chip joining his repertoire alongside such diverse and inspirational characters such as Gob, Bojack, and Batman,” said Cindy Holland, Netflix’s vice president of original content. This is Arnett’s third major project for Netflix, which also saved Arrested Development from cancellation and produced BoJack Horseman, in which Arnett was impeccably cast as a drunk horse. With Mitch Hurwitz involved here as an executive producer, and with this show only being eight episodes, there is little reason to think that he would be unable to tackle both.

In addition to “Arrested Development,” which Netflix famously resurrected for a fourth season, Arnett stars in one more Netflix original series, “BoJack Horseman,” which it recently picked up for a second season. It was announced recently that there are still hopes to revive Hurwitz’s long-running hit at some point in the future, and with that in mind, we are very optimistic to see what happens there. Well, ‘BoJack Horseman’ certainly turned out better than expected, and there’s nothing wrong with Netflix keeping talent like Will Arnett in house.

Like the Johanna Stein-penned book on which it’s based, the half-hour will center on a pair of unconventional parents who try to raise their child according to their own rules — not the rules imposed upon them by society at large.
