Israeli Miss Universe contestant’s selfie causes international uproar.

BEIRUT: A selfie showing Miss Lebanon Saly Greige posing next to Miss Israel Doron Matalon, a wide smile on their faces, caused uproar in Lebanon as the hashtag “Two words for Miss Lebanon” trended over the weekend.Saly Greige, Miss Lebanon, slammed in local media for taking selfie with Doron Matalon ahead Miss Universe contest: ‘She photobombed us,’ she said in her defense amid cries for her to be stripped of title. Greige defended herself against accusations that she posed for a selfie with Miss Israel during the Miss Universe contest currently being held in Miami, saying Matalon photobombed the picture. “You could have avoided mingling with the Israeli contestant like previous Lebanese contestants have done throughout the years.

Lebanon’s Al Jadid published a scathing report of the incident, in which they poked fun at Greige, and asked by the model, who once said she enjoys reading, failed to read a book explain that Israel is an enemy state. Matalon, who was in the news years ago when a haredi man sexually harassed her on a bus during her military service, has been living in Miami ahead of the competition. I was having a photo with Miss Japan, Miss Slovenia [and] suddenly Miss Israel jumped in and took a selfie and uploaded it on her social media.”

But not all of the comments were critical of Greige, with one twitter user saying “the beautiful ones take selfies and the trolls start hashtags.” Another user was very concise stating: “Kick her out,” in reference to Greige. Too bad you can not put the hostility out of the game, only for three weeks of an experience of a lifetime that we can meet girls from around the world and also from the neighboring country. @salygreige_official @miss_israel @missunews @missuniverse @missuniversusa #lebanon #israel #missuniverse2014 Matalon then weighed in on the matter, posting a link to a news story about the controversy on Facebook and Instagram, writing, “It doesn’t surprise me, but it still makes me sad.
