Calls For Miss Lebanon To Be Stripped Of Her Title… All Because She Took A Photo With Miss Israel.

Beauty contestant Miss Lebanon has defended herself against claims she posed for a selfie with Miss Israel during the latest iteration of the Miss Universe competition, saying that the latter “jumped in” to take the controversial picture. Earlier, photos circulated on social media showing Miss Lebanon Saly Greige surrounded by the beauty queens of Israel, Slovenia and Japan caused uproar back in her homeland, Beirut-based newspaper The Daily Star reported. Saly Greige was pictured smiling alongside Miss Israel, Doron Matalon, Miss Slovenia and Miss Japan in Miami ahead of the pageant this week in a photograph posted on the Israeli’s Instagram site. Lebanese media picked up the story, running Greige’s allegations that Matalon had “photobombed” the selfie, and local social media users both defended and attacked their beauty queen for the picture.

Israel occupied parts of Lebanon for 22 years until 2000, but the two countries are still technically at war and their armies occasionally skirmish along the UN-designated withdrawal line. Israel fought a bloody war against Lebanon’s Hezbollah in 2006, which killed more than 1,200 people in Lebanon, mostly civilians, and some 160 Israelis, mostly soldiers. – AFP One user tweeted: “You [Greige] could have avoided mingling with the Israeli contestant like previous Lebanese contestants have done throughout the years. And if you were harassed like you say, you could have at least avoided the huge smile [we see] on your face.” Some called for the Miss Lebanon title to be taken from Ms Greige.

The New York Post report that the Lebanese government will “launch an investigation” into the offending photo, and a decision will be made this week if Saly can continue in the competition.
