Miley Cyrus Is Hosting the VMAs, so of Course We Have Some Ideas for Her.

Taylor Swift’s star-studded Bad Blood music video is paying off: She’s the top nominee at next month’s MTV Video Music Awards. Joy, who is Swift’s support act on her current 1989 world tour, was nominated in the Artist to Watch category on the back of his success with Riptide. Swift is nominated for nine moonmen, including video of the year for Bad Blood, starring Selena Gomez, Gigi Hadid, Lena Dunham and more of the pop star’s famous friends.

Having a host like Miley opens up a lot of possibilities for the VMAs—especially considering the last two years’ events haven’t had an emcee at all. We have to admit we enjoyed not having to sit through a potentially awkward opening monologue as well as the additional musical performances (like Cyrus’ infamous duet with Robin Thicke). The event has made headlines in recent years for singer Miley Cyrus’ provocative “twerk” performance with a foam finger in 2013, and hip-hop artist Kanye West’s interruption of Swift’s 2009 acceptance speech.

Swift’s Blank Space will compete for best female video and pop video, while Bad Blood is up for best collaboration, direction, editing, visual effects, art direction and cinematography. Cyrus tweeted on Monday that she will host this year’s awards, showing pictures of her with placards saying: “MTV won’t let me perform” and “So I’m hosting this year’s VMAs.”

Garrison Keillor, creator and longtime host of the popular A Prairie Home Companion radio show, is retiring after next season, after four decades of entertaining listeners with his baritone voice and folksy comedy sketches about Lake Wobegon, his mythical Minnesota hometown.
