Miley Cyrus to host MTV Video Music Awards in August

From twerk to work: Miley Cyrus to host MTV Video Music Awards.

Cyrus announced the gig by posting a photo of herself in an alien costume with sandwich boards that read “MTV won’t let me perform” and “so I’m hosting this year’s VMAs.” Cyrus won the video of the year trophy at last year’s show and invited a young homeless man named Jesse Helt on stage to accept the trophy on her behalf. As unpredictable as she is, no one is sure what to expect from Cyrus as a host, but her most memorable VMA moments in the past two years have certainly become water cooler moments. The 22-year-old pop star announced on Instagram on Monday that she will host the 2015 Video Music Awards with a concise, expressive message: “F–k yeah VMAs!!!!!” she writes.

Who knows what tricks Cyrus will treat us to this year, but it’s hard to forget her controversial 2013 VMA performance where she stuck her tongue out and simulated sex-moves with human-sized teddy bears, then stripped off, wore a giant foam hand and twerked against Robin Thicke. As one side of her sign alludes to, the supposed “performance prohibition” refers to the infamous 2013 performance with Robin Thicke where Cyrus lustily danced with the “Blurred Lines” singer in a moment that almost broke the Internet, if the breaking of the Internet could actually happen by a pop culture event.
