Disney Movies Anywhere Adds Amazon and Microsoft.

Los Angeles: Walt Disney Co. extended its Disney Movies Anywhere service to include films purchased in Inc. and Microsoft Corp. online stores.Walt Disney’s studio unit stated clients of Amazon and Microsoft’s video providers will get entry to the gathering on its cloud-based film storage service from Tuesday. The service, which Disney introduced last year, enables customers to buy and store electronic copies of movies that they can watch later on tablet computers, smartphones and other devices. Studios like Disney, which has made blockbuster movies like “Frozen” and Marvel’s “Guardians of the Galaxy,” have been trying to steer film followers in the direction of digital purchases as gross sales of DVDs decline.

Walt Disney Studios added that it might launch the app on video streaming-device maker Roku and Google’s Android TV on Sept. 15, coinciding with the DVD launch of “Cinderella.” The gathering in Disney Films Anyplace may be accessed by means of its new app for the Microsoft Xbox 360 and for Amazon’s Hearth tablets, Hearth TV and Hearth TV Stick. The Burbank, California-based entertainment giant is trying to facilitate the move from physical DVD sales to digital movie purchases by creating a place where customers can easily store and access Disney videos from multiple vendors.
