First ‘Steve Jobs’ Trailer: See Michael Fassbender as Apple Co-Founder.

The film written by Aaron Sorkin, who incidentally also wrote ‘The Social Network’ a film based on another tech icon Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg, and directed by Danny Boyle (best known for films like ‘Slumdog Millionaire’ and ‘Trainspotting’) will release on 9 October.

Although the trailer does not offer too much insight into the film, it does deliver a first glance of Michael Fassbender as the late Apple CEO — down to a few seconds of footage of him in the infamous black turtleneck. The 60-second teaser, which Universal debuted on Sunday night, includes a full array of Sorkinisms beyond that above line: “I sat in a garage and invented the future.” “Because artists lead, and hacks ask for a show of hands.” “What you make isn’t supposed to be the best part of you.” The video doesn’t reveal much except at the end, when we see an older Steve Jobs standing in front of an audience, presumably getting ready for a keynote address.

The minute-plus clip shows us Jobs mostly from behind as he prepares to take the stage for one of his famous product-launch speeches while lines of dialogue from the film swirl around. When we finally see Fassbender from the front, he is wearing Jobs’s signature glasses and black turtleneck, and he is being hailed by a rabid audience while flash photography saturates him. This is Sorkin’s second attempt to take on the heroes of Silicon Valley after his look at Mark Zuckerberg in The Social Network, and the moody trailer suggests the film will hit some similar myth-puncturing notes. The film also features Kate Winslet as Joanna Hoffman, who was the original member of the Macintosh team and the NeXT team, a company that Jobs founded when he was chucked out of Apple. Sorkin’s script, based on Walter Isaacson’s biography, is said to focus on three presentations Jobs gave that defined his life and his role at Apple.
