‘A Very Murray Christmas’ Trailer: Bill Murray Prepares for ‘Greatest Night in History’ With Miley Cyrus & More.

We already knew that Bill Murray would be starring in a musical Christmas special for Netflix debuting on Dec. 4, and we’ve already seen the teaser listing its massive slate of celebrity guest stars.

A snowstorm has hit New York closing the airports and Murray feels chances are low for appearances by invited guests including Sir Paul McCartney (and even Pope Francis). He calls on famous friends like Amy Poehler, Rashida Jones, Jason Schwartzman, George Clooney and Miley Cyrus to help put the Christmas special together.

One scene shows Murray singing a Christmas duet with Cyrus and while another shows him racing against the clock to make his show a success just when Cera expresses that the Christmas show is sounding like a “Christ-mess.” “Tonight will go down as the greatest night in history,” replies Murray. “We have George Clooney.” Clooney’s attendance reassures Cera who asks Murray if he saw Monuments Men – a joke that Clooney overshadows Murray in the film – to which Murray replies “I was in it.” Pause at: 0:06 for Paul Schaffer; 0:43 for Rashida Jones and Jason Schwartzman; 1:00 for Jenny Lewis and Phoenix as Carlyle catering staff; 1:13 for Chris Rock. Netflix announced the special in May and called it an “homage to the classic variety show.” Other co-stars include Michael Cera, Jenny Lewis, Paul Shaffer and the band Phoenix. 2015 may not bring everything that Back to the Future II promised it would: flying cars, self-lacing shoes, we don’t see ’em happening over the next 12 months. (Then again, don’t bet against Nike.) But this year will definitely pack plenty of punch when it comes to cultural happenings. Essential Quote: “OK you’re not a singer, and we don’t have time to find out if you’re a dancer.”—Murray, to a hotel employee he picked at random to sing “The 12 Days Of Christmas” Mad Max will roar back out of the apocalypse while Mad Men rides off into the sunset, rock’s Antichrist Superstar and hip-hop’s Yeezus will rise again.
