Megan Fox Might Be Exactly What New Girl Needs.

The Emmy nominee, who already filmed several episodes prior to going on leave, will be briefly written off the show after her character Jess gets sequestered while on jury duty. The 29-year-old actress is joining the upcoming sixth series of the show as gorgeous, straight-shooting pharmaceutical sales rep Reagan while Zooey is away on maternity leave.New Girl executive producer Liz Meriwether said: “It’s insane to me that such a gorgeous person can be so funny, but I guess we just all have to accept it. “I’ve been a fan of her comedic skills since This Is 40, and I’m so excited to have her on the show. Her co-star Max Greenfield, who welcomed his second child last month, expressed his delight at the “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles” star joining his show Thursday on Twitter. Production is scheduled to gear up this month anyway, though, and the New Girl team has come up with the most classic sitcom way to explain her absence: Jess has been sequestered for jury duty!

But there’s now a hole in the five-person cast, and Jess’s empty room in the loft . . . maybe a moderately famous name can come goose ratings and help fill it? We had Megan in mind when we wrote this part – she’s the perfect person to come in and shake these guys up.’ Meanwhile, although Megan – who split from husband Brian Austin Green last month – may be best known for playing bombshell Mikaela Banes in the first two Transformers films, she is no stranger to comedy.

Megan has appeared in various sitcoms such as What I Like About You (2003), Hope & Faith (2004-06) and Two And Half Men (2004) where she showcased her varied comedic talents. And New Girl has featured a few supporting characters of exactly that type, usually with not-great results—remember when Schmidt, Winston, and Coach spent an entire episode trying to woo the hot new neighbors? But let’s be charitable—New Girl is headed into its fifth season, a time when any sitcom could use a change of pace, and replacing doe-eyed Deschanel with Maxim-ready Fox is a big, but inherently temporary, change. They’ve done a great job turning model CeCe into a character with depth; giving Fox more than a few episodes could turn the show’s stock character of “hot girl to distract the boys” into someone with real purpose, too. Megan Fox was one of the biggest rising stars we had about five years ago; before she’s relegated to a future of hanging out with CGI turtles, why not give her one more chance to surprise us?
